Having a second blog is not that uncommon anymore, many bloggers do create a second blog if they want to separate their niches or want to create a separate website to make a distinction in terms of branding and topics.
That’s the reason why in today’s post, I wanted to share with you 3 things I will not be doing if I were to create a second blog hypothetically. These aren’t necessarily bad strategies or things that brought me disadvantages but more so things that were redundant and didn’t do anything in the grand scheme of things. Without further ado, let’s jump into the post!

1 | TAKING AN UNNECESSARY LONG TIME TO COME UP WITH A BLOG NAME
I would be the first person to say that having a blog name that you like and find it the best for you is extremely important but taking an unnecessary long time to come up with one is just a waste of time.
I took a year to come up with my blog name and even though I am very happy with it, there are so many things I could’ve done with that time whether it be writing & publishing articles, working on my blogging skills, etc.
If you are indecisive and are struggling to come up with something, I would recommend to take a month which isn’t too short nor too long to find a name that would be the best for your blog.

2 | PAYING TOO MUCH ATTENTION ON THE BRANDING
Another thing I wouldn’t be doing if I were to create a second blog is to focus too much on the branding. Having a cohesive and professional looking website is not only important but also efficient if you want to grow your audience and gain opportunities but it shouldn’t be on the top of your priority list.
During my first year of blogging, I had changed my branding at least 4 times which in retrospect, didn’t make any difference in terms of growth but those changes did make me happy since I really liked the creative aspect of blogging when it came to web & graphic design. As long as your blog theme looks professional, cohesive and up to your preference then it’s good to go.
There is no need to change your branding every couple of months or to pay way too much attention on it because at the end of the day, your audience are there for your content and having a cohesive website will only make the experience of navigating through your website for them better.

3 | NOT HAVING A SET ROUTINE
Last but not least, not having a set routine from the very get-go is something that I wouldn’t do if I were to have a second blog. It’s something I have mentioned multiple times on my blog but having a routine for your blog is not only beneficial for your website but also for yourself. When there is a structure, it’s easier to find the tasks you need to do in order to improve your blog, and to create strategies in order to grow your audience.

Hey NL 🙂
great answers — even though I am not a huge fan of *negativity* (for example: using the word “not”).
I manage several HUNDREDS of blogs, so lemme add my 2 cents also too. 😛
🙂 Norbert
Thank you Norbert! I definitely agree on the point of keeping the name short, it’s beneficial in so many different ways. As always, thank you so much for reading 😊
I’ve started lots of blogs over the years and I still spend way too much on the first 2 and not enough time on the 3rd. Such a hard habit to break!
It’s definitely hard, it took me 4 years to establish a routine and stop focusing on things that were redundant in the grand scheme of things. It’s so easy to fall back into an old habit but you have to stay focused which is obviously easier said than done. Thank you so much for reading 😊
I know what you mean. Presentation is important, but it is the quality of content that really matters – it pays to devote most of our attention to that.
Haha — IMHO content may be king, but I always say that context is queen (and that SHE wears the pants! 😉 )
Absolutely! At the end of the day, what matters the most is the content and its quality. You might attract people with a great branding but they will only stay if the content is informative. Thank you so much for reading 😊
