3 Ways to Discipline Yourself.

I personally think it’s extremely important to hold ourselves accountable and up to a certain standard if we want to grow and better ourselves as a person.

Obviously, when we are young we have the guidance of a parent or guardian which unfortunately not everyone has the privilege to but we have an adult who instills discipline in us but as we turned into an adult, we often forget to take on that position/role and that’s when we start lacking regarding certain aspects.

In today’s post, I wanted to share with you some ways on how to discipline yourself. Without further ado, let’s jump into the post!

1 | BEING HONEST & OPEN WITH YOURSELF

I know that in some cases, you have to put on a mask in front of other people in your life but that doesn’t apply when you are by yourself with no one around you. I cannot stress how important it is to be honest with yourself.

We are our own biggest critics, I would even go as far as saying that nobody would judge the way we judge our own-self but we also have to look at ourselves from a third point of view and separate our objective thoughts from our subjective ones.

2 | BEING SELF-AWARE OF YOUR THOUGHTS & ACTIONS

The real change starts happening when we become self-aware. When you start to acknowledge your thoughts, opinions, values, morals and beliefs, you become aware of the person you are and from then on you either choose to remain the same person or change yourself.

Obviously, whether you grow and better yourself or do the complete opposite is a totally different matter but once you know who you are, you become aware of what you lack & what you want and what you want to change.

3 | NOT BEING HYPOCRITICAL

We all know how easy it is to give advice to others but how difficult it is to applying it to ourselves, it’s pretty much the same case here as well. Don’t say or do something that you aren’t going to follow yourself and I also think it’s not fair to hold others to a certain standard if you aren’t holding yourself the same way and vice versa.

If you are kind to other people then you have to show that same level of kindness towards yourself as well. If you show grace and empathy towards others then show that same amount of grace towards yourself. Discipline requires a lot of time, effort and work, you cannot change yourself overnight so please be kind to yourself.
