A Few Habits to Heal Yourself.

I’ve shared a few habits that have helped me throughout the years on my blog but I don’t think I’ve ever shared any habits that have helped heal a part of myself yet, and that’s what I wanted to share with you in today’s post. I have written down these habits in a manner that can be applicable for anyone and everyone so I hope you find them helpful. As always if you’re interested – keep on reading!

FOCUSING ON AN ACTIVITY THAT RELAXES YOU

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while then I’m pretty sure you already know this but everyone needs to do an activity where they can truly relax without feeling any guilt about it. Relaxation plays a big part with your healing journey, you need to relax and be able to let your guard down without being self-conscious about anything.

On that note, I wouldn’t consider sleep to be a relaxing activity, personally I would consider it to be more of an activity that has the ability to rejuvenate you.

Spending quality time with your loved ones can be relaxing and depending on your preference, some hobbies can be relaxing as well. Going for a walk around your neighbourhood is relaxing if you find yourself not thinking about anything. All in all, I would recommend focusing on an activity that fits your description of relaxation.

SPARING TIME FOR A HOBBY

I’m a firm believer that everyone should have a hobby to nurture regardless of their age & circumstance. I do know some hobbies require money in order to sustain them but many hobbies don’t. We live in a day and age where hobbies have to be productive, you either have to earn money or learn skills through them otherwise they are considered a waste of your time, efforts & money.

Hobbies don’t have to be profitable and the reason why they existed in the first place was purely to find enjoyment. Can hobbies turn into passions and eventually into a career? Yes, but they don’t have to be – you are the one who decides what to do with them. A hobby is a great way to escape reality and immerse yourself into that activity for a few hours, it can even heal your inner-child.

TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF

You cannot heal yourself if you don’t start taking care of yourself first. The act of taking care of yourself is much more than following your self-care routine, eating three meals per day and exercising, it’s about valuing your body & mind.

For instance, cooking for yourself is a lot of work especially after a busy & tiring day, I’m not going to lie the majority of the times it feels like a chore but giving sustenance to your body is just the bare minimum. How many times have you cooked for yourself purely to eat a hearty meal? And how many times have you cooked for another person hoping their stomach is full & satisfied? The difference here is we unconsciously are way more empathetic & caring towards others than we are to ourselves.

When we take care of others, we do it with affection and tenderness but we don’t really direct that same sentiment towards our own selves. When we take care of ourselves, we more often than not think about the external benefits it could bring such as productivity, surge of energy, etc. but we should do it with the intent of value and not based on what it could potentially bring us. Good health is a perfect example of that, it does have external benefits but the best benefits are the internal ones.
