I will be the first person to say that you have the right to spend your money on whatever and how ever you want. If you want to save it, go for it and if you want to splurge it then go for it as well! However, if there is something I’ve learnt during the past few years especially after the pandemic, it’s the fact that there is nothing more regretful than looking at something that you didn’t technically need but could have saved your money on.
In today’s post, I wanted to share with you some ways on how to stop spending money on unnecessary things. Note that those things can be unnecessary to you and not to others and vice versa but those are mainly things that you don’t find essential in your life. As always, if you are interested – keep on reading!

IS IT REALLY NECESSARY?
I don’t think anybody other than yourself has the right to question whether the product or the thing you are going to spend your money on is necessary or not. If you know deep down that this is something necessary then I would say it’s worth every single penny. On the other hand, if you have a tiny ounce of doubt or uncertainty then I would recommend taking your time before making a decision.
There are so many things you might find essential during that specific moment but you know subconsciously that those things aren’t going to be useful in the long run. One of the ways I check the necessity for the things I’m going to spend money on is the longevity of the said thing/product. Will I need this a year later? How long will I use it for? Is it an investment or a single purchase? Will this make me happy? Those questions usually help me find the answer.

WILL I EVER REGRET SPENDING MONEY ON IT?
This point kind of ties with the previous one but if you know that you are going to regret – no matter how big or small that regret is – then I would recommend reconsidering your decision about that potential purchase. At the end of the day, it’s your hard earned money and if this is going to make you genuinely happy then I would say this is not something that you should regret spending your money on and ultimately you won’t regret it whether it was useful or not.
However, if you are already regretting before even spending your money then is it really worth it? There are so many things I’ve regretted buying but they ended up being products that didn’t only facilitate me but also made me very happy but there are also products that I ended up regretting buying prior to purchasing them in the first place and only ended up regretting more later on. You just have to ask questions to yourself and evaluate your decision based on those answers.

IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE OPTION AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE POINT?
This is something you already know and might be doing but if there is an alternative option then compare both of those things and check which one is better to spend your money on. Obviously, this varies from product-to-product but if the quality doesn’t make that much of a difference between the original and alternative option then choose which one will it be better to spend your money on. Will it be clever to save money or invest more money on the original? Is the original still better? Objectively or subjectively?
