3 Ways to Feel Good About Yourself.

I think it’s way easier to feel good about yourself when you have accomplished a goal or when you are improving or working on something which could potentially lead to success, growth and betterment.

On the other hand, it’s way more difficult to feel good about yourself during your low moments or when you are going through an obstacle or hardship because you tend to be way more critical, harsher and less empathetic towards yourself.

In today’s post, I wanted to share with you some ways on how to feel good about yourself regardless of your circumstance. As always, if you are interested – keep on reading!

TAKING CARE OF YOUR BODY, SKIN & PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

This might seem vain but I personally think that a big part about feeling good about yourself lies in your appearance and the way you look externally. It’s not about fitting into society’s beauty standards or looking like what social media deems as ‘beautiful’ or ‘attractive’ but more so feeling good about yourself when you look at yourself in the mirror.

Exercise regularly, incorporate ingredients that your skin lacks into your routine, find your own sense of style by curating boards on Pinterest or by trying out different types of outfits/clothes while you are shopping. You shouldn’t put an effort to look good for others but for yourself. When you look good, you automatically start feeling good about yourself.

I would also like to note that it’s okay to be objective about your appearance but remember that you are always way harsher to yourself than you think you are. Everyone has insecurities and there are people who choose to accept them and others who choose to change them. There is no right or wrong answer here but remember that satisfaction is only temporary whereas fulfilment is permanent. Choose the answer that will help you long-term as opposed to the short-term one.

NOT SEEKING VALIDATION FROM OTHERS BUT WITHIN YOURSELF

It’s so easy to feel good about yourself when other people around you are constantly praising, commenting and appreciating your words & actions. However, once those comments stop then what happens? Would you still feel appreciated? Would you still feel worthy and good about yourself if no one around you acknowledged your actions?

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t seek validation from others especially when it comes to your loved ones because it is a very natural and almost instinctual feeling but it shouldn’t be your primary goal. When you seek validation from others, you are unconsciously giving your self-worth & self-esteem in their hands and as you already know, nothing good comes out of it.

Try to seek validation within yourself instead of others. Instead of focusing, expecting or thinking about what others will say, acknowledge and appreciate your own actions & words. Also, try to be empathetic towards yourself. You might think there is no better feeling than another person validating you but I beg to differ. There is no better feeling once you start validating yourself because you start appreciating the person you are becoming and growing to be.

EMPHASISING YOUR QUALITIES & STRENGTHS

I firmly believe that one of the reasons why we don’t feel good about ourselves is due to us being our own worst critic and enemy. We always put too much emphasis on our flaws and weaknesses instead of our qualities and strengths. It doesn’t really help that the world isn’t really lenient or kinder to other people’s circumstances and choose to look at things in a black or white way.

However, this shouldn’t stop you from acknowledging and highlighting your own strengths & qualities. If you know you are good at something then be proud about it and work on it. Take pride and build confidence in what you do best, there might be others who are better or worse than you in regards to this aspect but it doesn’t change the fact that you are good at it.

It’s important to acknowledge your flaws as well especially if there is room for change and improvement but not all flaws are changeable. If you can change them then work on them but if you can’t then accept them and pay attention to your qualities & strengths.
