There are so many things we are taught to do by ourselves while at the same time, we are taught to do so many things collectively as a group or with others. We are wired to socialise and live as a community, it’s pretty much in our nature but I do think it’s extremely important for us to learn to be by ourselves as well.
In today’s post, I wanted to explore the notion of learning to be by ourselves as opposed with others. As always, if you’re interested – keep on reading!

THE FIRST STEP TO INDIVIDUALITY
This goes without saying but learning to do things by yourself is the first step to independence and learning to be by yourself is another step to individuality.
It’s quite normal to adapt the beliefs, values, thoughts and even the opinions of the people you surround yourself with but you also have to ask yourself if those are the things you truly believe in when you are by yourself.
There are a few parts of yourself that you will only be able to uncover when you are by yourself. Not to be morbid but we are born by ourselves and we will leave this earth by ourselves as well, so why not take advantage of the life we have to truly find out who we are?

THE TOOL TO FIGURE OUT YOURSELF
This is pretty similar to the previous point but when you learn to be yourself as opposed with others, you learn to stop relying on others whether it be in terms of dependency or responsibility. You get the opportunity to realise that your happiness and peace rely completely on yourself and aren’t in the hands of another person.
But you also become self-aware and hold a sense of accountability for your own actions & words. This also gives you the opportunity to figure out who you truly are, what you like and dislike, what you love and despise, what you want and need, and what you don’t need or wish for.

THE COMFORT WITHIN YOURSELF
The biggest thing you could ever receive by learning to be by yourself is comfort and solace. Being comfortable in your skin is not only a luxury but very much a privilege. So many people are afraid to be by themselves to the point they can’t imagine living a life alone, which isn’t inherently a bad thing at all.
As I mentioned above, we are social creatures and each of us have fears of our own, so it’s completely normal to not want to be alone. However, there is a level of serenity you will only be able to find when you are comfortable on your own, which doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be or live with others—but you will be able to appreciate way more of the time & emotions you share with others when you learn to appreciate the time you spend with yourself.
