3 Blogging Advice I Don’t Follow

I’ve given loads of blogging tips and tricks throughout the years on my blog. I love sharing them with you and when other bloggers tell me that they see a difference after following my tips on their blogs makes me so so happy! Although I’ve been sharing a lot of tips all these years, there are a number (actually 3) of advice I’ve shared that I don’t follow myself. If you want to find out what they are then as always keep on reading!

NOT PROOFREADING MY BLOG POSTS

I don’t think this will come as a shock to some people because I spot my grammatical errors when I reread my blog posts after I publish them. I’ve advised in the past to proofread your blog posts before publishing but here I am doing the complete opposite haha! I don’t want to use this as an excuse but I write my blog posts in English & French and by the time I finish writing, I’m tired and I don’t want to spend any more time on that blog post when I could work on another blog post.

In addition, I would say the majority of my blog posts are pretty long and it will take me such a long time to proofread them. Obviously, I know in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t look professional but at the end of the day we are all humans. I make mistakes when I write in my mother tongue and English is my third language so I know I’m most likely to make a mistake or two here and there. I always try my best and I would love to say that I will proofread my posts from now on but the truth is, it’s really hard.

I work on my blog within a short time frame and I don’t have the option to proofread. If you spot any grammatical mistakes, please don’t think my writing skills are poor – my professors would literally be in shock lol! The same goes for other bloggers as well, it’s okay to have a spelling or grammar mistake in your blog post. Most people won’t notice it straightaway and they probably know that you didn’t see it anyway.

NOT UTILISING ALL MY SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS

I always say to utilise all your social media platforms in order to grow your blog. Not only will you gain traffic but it will open up other opportunities as well. However, I don’t think I’ve taken full advantage of my social media platforms myself. I would say I use Instagram and Facebook often but Twitter…

The reason why I don’t use all my social media platforms is because I am not into social media to be honest and I’ve already mentioned it multiple times on my blog as well. I like Facebook to a certain extent because I have a small number of followers and I feel quite comfortable sharing my thoughts on there.

As much as I hate the algorithm on Instagram, I do love it as a platform. It really helps me boost my creativity and I do get inspired by scrolling through some feeds. On the other hand with Twitter, it’s the complete opposite! I rarely use Twitter and I don’t think I have a big personality in order to use that platform.

I’m actually quite shy and I feel much more comfortable being vocal or share my opinions on my blog compared to Twitter. But this year, I’ve made the decision to use Twitter more often and share things that I wouldn’t usually share on my blog or Instagram for instance my drawings, illustrations, etc.

NOT RELAXING

If there is one blogging advice I always share on my blog is to take a break and to relax in order to work more productively & efficiently but I don’t do that myself. It’s definitely not healthy and I’ve seen the repercussions of it. This year I’ve made the resolution to take care of my body, soul and mind.

I’m the type of person if I don’t work, I feel like I’m wasting my time and not being productive. But I want to put my health as a priority this year, I’ve started to take breaks every week and to just relax. Some people need an hour whilst others might need a day. Your physical and mental health are so important, please don’t neglect that.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING!

  1. Cool writeup
I think social media is really something that bloggers need to master, tho it’s not always easy but it’s necessary. I advice Pinterest
Also, proofreading. Ah! Sometimes I proofread my drafts up to three times and still find errors
This is a really sincere one
    Keep writing

  2. Lol. I guess we all do this.
It was surprising to me to know you don’t proofread your posts because your Grammar is always impeccably articulated!

As for the Social media sharing, I can relate to that one! Lol

    Thanks for sharing 😊

  3. I do not proof read mine either! I go through multiple edits after I post!

I just started back and I have nor relaxed! Now that I am on the LIKEtoKNOW.it app . I have been non stop and my husband is slightly annoyed. I know I will find balance soon. Thanks for sharing I always enjoy reading your posts.

  4. I’m with you on that part of not utilising your social media handles. I mean, I always advise my readers to maximize their social media accounts, but I hardly do that myself. Although like you, I’ve decided to make the most of it this year because I simply have to. This is the most sincere content I’ve read today.

*Off to connect with you on Twitter!*

  5. The best! Proofreading seems to work best when there’s help, but I’m too impatient. Loved this post cuz made me laugh and made me want to do SM better, too! Thanks!💖

  6. Girl you see that proofreading stuff? It’s hard! especially on long post, but it’s worth it.

I had to take it seriously now, because I hate to see my jaw drop anytime I sit to update an article!

On social media, those algorithms are kind of crazy, so I deviate.

But I bet you, I relax. Got to give my body some time and let my head think for another article.

    Nice one. You’ve written well!

  7. Ah, I am with you on the social media! I really only somewhat use Pinterest. I have an Instagram for my blog. But I really don’t take enough photos for me to utilize it properly. So I only post when a blog post is coming. Bad. I know.

    1. Yes! Maybe it’s because I am more old school and just don’t understand it. But I really hate the fake it til you make it mindset. And the over glamour photos. I love to look at them, don’t get me wrong. But that will likely never be my blog or social media 😅

  8. Good write up… Proofreading is sometimes difficult though it’s essential. I do it with some posts… Twitter has been one of my greatest social media challenges. I decided to up it this year a little

  9. I am shocked that English is your third language – your grammar and spelling seems better than some Native English people lol! I think it is so cool you speak three languages, I would love to speak another language!

    Nikita

p.s. I had a look on your Insta and I have came away so inspired!! I am in love with your feed, it’s beautiful xx

  10. lol I def go through periods where I’m guilty of #1 – but I try to use the Grammarly plugin to make it easier to proof read! I wonder if there is anything similar to that in Europe that could make proof reading easier for you?

    1. Grammarly is available in Europe as well but it’s only for self-hosted websites and unfortunately mine isn’t 🙁 I’ll definitely try to read once I’ve finished writing a blog post lol! Till this day, I’ve never read my blog posts after I wrote them 🙈 At least, it was something I used to do when I started blogging.

  11. I have such a hard time getting anyone to comment or subscribe from Instagram also and Facebook isn’t much better. 97% of my subscribers are from Twitter. I do my best to proof read over and over. I, much like you feel as though I have to be blogging. Each blog takes me 3-8 hours depending on the length and content and research. I do not get paid either

  12. I’m also guilty of not proofreading my posts 🙈 it’s so bad but I have the same mindset as you, I often feel my time would be better spent moving onto another post! I generally type mine up on a Google doc first (a habit I’ve stuck after I started blogging with a crappy laptop that kept causing WP to crash) so I try and proofread paragraphs as I copy them over – it’s easier said than done though! X

    1. Instagram can be a bit (a lot) toxic but it’s actually where I mostly started. 😅 I find Pinterest just a bit easier even though I’m still a beginner.

    2. Same! I started off with Instagram and I find it there’s too much toxicity and negativity there. On the other hand, Pinterest is so easy to use and it gives me a lot of inspiration! 💗

  13. I have to admit that I also don’t like social media. I have to force myself to use it and haven’t been very successful on that front. I’d rather spend my limited time doing my weekly blog. Somehow this platform feels more intimate than any of the other ones. Because I prefer to have real connections rather than copious numbers of followers.
Take care of yourself.and do try to relax. Remember breathing is an essential part of life and I suspect that like most of us, you don’t take those deep cleansing breaths when you are otherwise occupied with work.

    1. I much prefer my blog compared to my social media. There are some days when I feel so inspired and creative when checking my Instagram or Pinterest. I’m going to try use my social media more frequently this year and see what happens! Thank you so much for your kind words ❤️
