blogging community over competition - new lune

Blogging Community Over Competition?

I personally think it’s so easy to compare ourselves with other bloggers in this industry whether it be in terms of numbers, content, etc. But you have to remember that there will always be a blogger with more followers & traffic than you but that doesn’t change the fact that your blog is as unique & original as theirs.

This is something I’ve already mentioned multiple times on my blog but you will never be able to blog productively nor passionately if you start to compare yourself or compete with other bloggers. I don’t think competition is something unhealthy but the only person you should compete with is yourself.

In today’s post, I wanted to share with you my thoughts on why you should focus more on the blogging community instead of comparing or even competing with other bloggers. It’s something I’ve wanted to share with you for a long time. As always, if you are interested – keep on reading!

IT’S NOT HEALTHY FOR THE LONG RUN

I’m pretty sure this is something all bloggers would agree with me, I definitely don’t think comparing yourself or competing with another blogger is healthy at all. It’s quite toxic and unhealthy. As I mentioned above, there is absolutely nothing wrong with competing or comparing with yourself but when you choose to do it with another person that’s when things go downhill.

I know it’s easier said than done but remember that all bloggers started from the same place. The bloggers you see having thousands of followers right now probably struggled to gain two or three followers when they first started blogging. It probably took them months to reach this position and obviously a lot of hard work and effort.

You have to understand that there is so much that goes on behind the scenes and I’m pretty sure most of you do as bloggers. There are so many things you have to do in order to run and maintain a blog. At the end of the day, we are all in the same boat and we all know how difficult it is to maintain a blog regardless of the numbers so you don’t need to develop any negative thoughts about your blog when we are all the same.

YOU CAN NEVER BE HAPPY WITH YOUR BLOG

Comparing yourself with another blogger will only result in you being unhappy with your blog. You will never feel happy to work on your blog thus you won’t be able to produce any content on your website or even do the simplest blogging tasks.

So many people create a blog for the wrong reasons whether it be to earn money, receive free products or gain a ton of followers that’s the reason why they are not able to blog for a long period of time. Obviously, those things aren’t bad at all when you are passionate about your blog but when the sole purpose of creating your website is to receive free goodies then it’s definitely a problem.

Being unhappy with your blog will not only result in you not working on your blog but it will also lead you to go the wrong path by copying and stealing other bloggers’ contents and ideas. In my opinion, there is nothing more embarrassing and disrespectful than stealing another blogger’s hard work. At that point, not only will you have lost your credibility as a blogger but also your integrity. You can’t even consider yourself as a blogger anymore.

YOU WILL LOSE YOUR PASSION FOR BLOGGING

This goes without saying that if you start competing with other bloggers, you will gradually start to lose your passion for blogging. Blogging is something that’s supposed to be positive and fun, it shouldn’t feel exhausting or nerve wracking. Remember the reason why you created your blog in the first place!

If you are truly passionate about your blog, you don’t need to feel jealous or discouraged by another blogger. It should encourage you to work harder on your blog to achieve the same results. Why waste your precious time by comparing when you could reach the same milestones or even higher ones!

COMMUNITY > COMPARISON & COMPETITION

Instead of looking at other bloggers as your competitors, see them as your supporters and online friends. Most of your followers are probably bloggers themselves, there is literally no need to feel disheartened or discouraged by looking at their success. Every blogger’s definition of success is different. For some, having a successful blog is about sharing things they are passionate about whereas for others, it’s about having people read their blogs.

If you start to divert your attention to unnecessary things like comparison then you will never feel fulfilled by your blog. When you start to only focus on your blog and not look at other blogs as competitors, you will soon start to notice a difference whether it be your productivity level, your love & passion for your blog or your stats. You will not be able to grow your blog without supporting other bloggers. The community is what makes this industry so huge and powerful.

  1. I have met so many nice people through my blog and enjoy reading their writing. That said, I write the kind of blog I want to read and worry about satisfying myself first. Of course, I’m not in it for money or career – just for fun.

Great post and thought provoking! Have a good day! 🙂

  2. I think you’ve emphasized this issue so much that I remember how much I looked down on myself as a blogger…until I read one of your posts about comparison. I started to be content with my progress. As slow as it was, i finally found my voice and rhythm and am learning everyday

  3. As always, another well thought out timely discussion. I love the idea of a community rather than competition. Competition does have its place but not so much in the blogging world. Write what you know, like, and are passionate about and everything else will follow. I look at other bloggers as inspiration because they are speaking their truths not someone else.
    Thank Again!!

  4. Great post! It’s been a year since I started blogging and I never felt any type of competition between me and other bloggers, it was always with myself and making sure that my blog steps up it’s game! Great Post!♥️

  5. I like this post. It reminds me that I can have my own “hlas” (it means “voice” in Slovak language). I will definitely find my own “hlas” (in Polish, my native language it is “głos”). By reading my comment you could learn two new words: one in Slovak and one in Polish. daretolive72, a blogger with great ideas.

  6. I’ve definitely felt the bite of the competition bug before and it definitely impacts how you think about your content and the quality of your work and productivity. These days, I’m glad to say that I see other bloggers as inspiration and I hope to make some great friendships in the long run. This community is so amazing and supportive. I’m just happy to be able to share my voice and learn from others. Thank you this lovely post and reminder.

  7. It is so true that we compare ourselves so much in the beggining and sometimes feel down for not having as much likes or followers as the others but then I remember that the most important thing is to do what I want and Love and that the right followers and readers will come to me easily if I stay consistent in the process !

  8. I wholeheartedly agree. I try not to pay too much attention to stats and followers (though it is nice when I get one) because I’d be writing whether one person or one hundred people read it. I write because I want to and if I make friends or strike a chord along the way then that’s great 😊

  9. Thanks for all your posts on this topic, when I first started it was one your posts that made me become aware of one of the obstacles I will face as a blogger. “Comparison is a chain that we put around our ankles that will always pull us back because you will never be free.” As always great post. Thanks again

  10. Absolutely agree with you. Competition in the blogging community is useless. Everyone is unique, therefore everyone has something unique to offer. As I usually say, I have a minuscule blog, and I love it. I have so much fun thinking about topics to write and that moment when I click the publish button is the highlight of my week.

  11. With all that being said, thank you for sharing and for taking time to stop by and visit my site. I hope it provided encouragement for your day. Your words reminded me to keep my motive for blogging in front of me at all times.

  12. This is a wonderfully insightful, well-written, and Helpful Post.
    Great advice you provide here.
    Thank you.
    Cheers,
    –Lance

    I particularly loved this part:

“Good name in man and woman, dear my lord,
Is the immediate jewel of their souls.
    Who steals my purse steals trash; ’tis something, nothing;
    ‘Twas mine, ’tis his, and has been slave to thousands;
But he that filches from me my good name
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
    And makes me poor indeed.”
