3 Things To Be Wary About As A Blogger.

There are so many things that you are warned about as a blogger or simply when you have an account on social media but I think the most common things are plagiarism and just negative individuals in general. In today’s post, I wanted to share with you 3 things you need to be wary about whether you are a small or established blogger. Those things are most likely to happen if you are a new blogger in the industry but it can also happen to bloggers who have been here for years if they didn’t already face it. Without further ado, let’s jump into the post!

ENTITLED INDIVIDUALS

You might or might not have come across these types of individuals but those are people who criticise your content in a form of a compliment which might not seem obvious at first glance. You might ask what they are trying to achieve but I really don’t have an exact answer for that. Some people do it just to feel better about themselves but most do it so that the blogger will write content that they request for.

A small or new blogger can easily fall into the trap of wanting to please their audience and to obviously improve themselves not knowing that the person they are dealing with is neither someone who has good intentions nor someone who wants to see them improve their skills. To put it bluntly, they just want a personal blogger who writes content they request in the style they want.

TROLLS

This is something that most people might be already aware of but the difference between the previous point and this one is the fact that these people don’t try to hide themselves nor their intentions. They simply want attention and they are ready to do whatever it takes to get it whether it’s by writing irrelevant & weird comments or by writing something completely out of the ordinary borderline creepy.

OBSESSIVE INDIVIDUALS

Last but not least, we have the individuals who are purely obsessed with you and your content. Usually, these types of people often end up plagiarising your content but some of them end up cyber stalking you. We are all aware of how weird & creepy some individuals can be and I even talked about it in a blog post of mine but some of these people are not really the people who you expect them to be.

Those aren’t necessarily anonymous accounts, it can be another blogger or reader. Someone who is very much part of the blogging community and that’s what makes it very disturbing. After you block them, they might impersonate to be another person in order to access your content and mainly get closer to you. The best way to deal with this situation is to simply take a step back and to block & report.

  1. Fascinting post! 😀

I often wonder about people who have an inclination to “block” — what does “blocking” actually mean. On my own blogs, I usually have to approve comments, so I would not need to “block” anything.

I think it’s only on *other people’s sites” … so what would I intend to tell people like Mark Zuckerg or Elon Musk by blocking someone, or something?

IDC (i.e., IDGAF 😉 ) about those people, those sites, etc.

    🙂 Norbert

    1. Thank you so much! When you block someone, you actually block them from viewing and engaging on your content which saves a lot of hassle if you see someone deliberately commenting something offensive, toxic or condescending. A quick block will remove that individual’s toxicity from your page and they wouldn’t be able to interact on your page either.

All the bloggers have that feature (depending on the platform) but some comments might get lost and get approved without the blog’s owner permission so in those cases, the block feature comes in handy. Thank you so much for reading 😊

  2. Thanks for the post. I’m pretty naive, even though I’ve been blogging for a few years. I’ve sometimes offered different opinions because I’ve wanted to open opinions.

On the last reason, I’ve been certain I’ve been stalked. I don’t know how to stop it when I’ve read things about myself on her site that I haven’t shared with anyone here. In some ways, it’s become so common that I just don’t care. Maybe I’m wrong. Life is too short to focus on it. I told my cousin who’s a county sheriff’s deputy, about it. He suggested cutting ties. At the time, I was both horrified and addicted to the attention. I had a few non discerning years. Like I mentioned, I could care less now. I don’t see that my skills in writing are any better than anyone else’s. I’ve tried submitting work to other venues over the years. Not a bite. Friends and family say that I write well. But even there, I haven’t had any outstanding comments.

    1. My pleasure! I’m so sorry to hear that and I hope things are better now when it comes to the stalking issue. I know this is something easier said than done but sometimes, great things take time to arrive and I’m pretty sure in your case, something great will come to your horizon very soon. Don’t get disheartened and try not to lose hope, thank you so much for reading ❤️

  3. Thanks for the heads up! People do have a lot of time to waste, don’t they? Maybe I’m lacking here, but – Where do they find so much mental and emotional energy? I only have so much to invest – therefore I invest it in the things that truly matter.🌹

    1. My pleasure! I know, right? It seems a waste of time & energy when you could be doing something much more efficient and productive but most of the times, it’s a huge amount of hatred & frustration that makes people do these kinds of things. Thank you so much for reading ❤️

  4. Yes these are so true! Every so often you get critical people or trolls. In one case not too long ago a gentleman wanted to exchange daily emails of a personal nature after I helped him with some publishing advice. I nicely told him I’m a little too busy for daily emails but would be happy to answer questions he might have in the future. He’s since stopped blogging (hopefully not because of that) and you always feel a little bad rejecting people, but I don’t think anyone has a right to demand that kind of time from a blogger. I love the friendships I’ve made here, but they’re always respectful and ask for very little.

    1. You just have to trust your gut instinct in that moment and you should never feel bad for prioritising yourself & setting boundaries. The right people will understand you and the not so right ones will leave which clearly means that they weren’t the right one for you from the very beginning. It was very kind of you to help him and I’m pretty sure he appreciated your help but sometimes rejecting and saying ‘no’ to people isn’t a bad thing at all. Thank you so much for reading ❤️

  5. I have been stalked in the past by someone whom I actually knew. It is scary and frightening even then, but I have no idea what I would do if it was someone I did not know. That seems just down right horrific.

  6. OMG: “I’d love to know your creepy or weird blogging experience(s)” (LOL)

That quote isn’t from here, it’s from “My Weird & Creepy Blogging Experiences” (see above).

It definitely reads like a “whodunnit” (though IDK if I’ve ever read a “real” whodunnit 😉 ).

What I want to know, NL, is: How did you know in April of 2019 that you would write a blog post about “when I first started blogging” over a year later?

    🙂 Norbert

  7. I’ve actually come across all of these and it was slightly concerning that these were bloggers who I thought were supportive. I was so wrong and niave! It actually put me off blogging for a year or so but now I’m back and trying to ignore the hate!

    1. I’m so sorry to hear that but I’m glad to hear that you are back and didn’t let those toxic people ruin your love/passion for blogging. Wishing you all the best and sending you lots of love ❤️

  8. I’ve never come across any of these persons and I hope I never do. Trolls are always annoying, spammers are even more annoying! I don’t want to be stalked, it sounds very unsafe and mentally stressful.

Thanks for the advice, definitely needed 💕
