Things you Can Do to Make your House Feel More Like Home.

Do you feel as though your house doesn’t feel like home? If so then you have come to the right place. This guide will show you what steps you can take to try and turn things around, so you can begin to feel more comfortable in no time at all.

ADD SOME NEW PAINT

One of the first things you need to do is add a new coat of paint. Painting the walls may seem obvious, but at the same time, it’s also a great way for you to brighten up your space. If you need some help deciding on your color scheme then one thing you can do is brush up on a bit of color psychology so you can create a vibe that works for each of your rooms. One thing to take note of is that the color red tends to increase energy, whereas oranges help to promote activity. Greens are great for relieving stress. If you know that the walls in your home are painted in a very basic neutral then adding some color could be the best way for you to spice up your home while making it feel more like yours.

HANG SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE ART

Empty walls can often feel dull and somewhat uninspiring. Decorating your home with some interesting art pieces that actually reflect your style is such an easy way for you to transform every single room in your home. It’s very easy for you to find affordable art through several sites too. Just don’t forget about the frame. You need to choose a frame that compliments the piece but that doesn’t distract from the visuals overall. Remember, you can use picture lights to add an element of coziness and charm. If you can do this then you will soon find that you can get the overall result you are going for.

DECORATE WITH PLANTS

Another thing you can do is decorate with plants. Take the time to bring the outdoors in. Add some greenery and some flowers as this will do a lot for your home. You can also add some plants to your space if you want to increase your mood, reduce energy and even improve creativity. Plants can also filter the air in your home, which will work wonders for your immune system. If you want to add some plants to your home then you need to do some research and you also need to visit your local nursery so you can learn which plants happen to thrive in your environment. You need to take into account space and you also need to take into account how much attention they need too. If you can do this then you are bound to see a huge improvement overall.

SECOND-HAND DÉCOR

If you plan to decorate your home on a budget then one of the best ways for you to get affordable decor or even furniture would be for you to go through your friends and your family. You need to know that you are not getting rid of unwanted items that could fit well in your space. You can also visit yard sales in your area as these are often home to cheap furniture. Just be mindful of the fact that while you can score cheap deals, some items need a bit of TLC or a bit of extra paint. If you are willing to put the work in here then you will soon find that it becomes easier for you to get the result you want.

UPGRADE ROOMS WITH TEXTILES

When the time comes for you to design your home, don’t be afraid to focus on things such as textiles. Pillows, blankets, curtains and throws are all very important here. Not only are textiles a very good way for you to make your home feel more inviting and cozy, but you may also find that they can breathe a new lease of life into woven furniture pieces that you might not have the money to upgrade right away. If you can give some thought to things such as this then it’ll help you out a lot in the long run.

SWAP YOUR LIGHTS

If your light has a lot of outdated fixtures or if you know that it just doesn’t fit into your new aesthetic then why not swap them out for something new? Depending on the mood that you would like to create, lighting could well be a focal point or it could be an accent for the space. Just like art, you have to give some thought to the size and the general positioning when designing your home. If you have a four-foot chandelier then this will probably look better there than over your dining room table. You can easily add some dimmers if you want to contribute to the mood as well as balance out any natural light. If you have any shelves then adding some light above those could be a good idea too, so try and keep that in mind if you can. When it comes to light, you need to figure out whether you want to go big, or whether you would like to add an accent to a room. If you can come to this conclusion then you will soon find that it helps you out a lot going forward.

HARDWARE

Don’t forget about other accents and hardware. Sometimes swapping out even the smallest accents can have a huge impact. Adding some interesting door knobs, as well as replacing your crown molding will instantly transform your home. While you can find several small accents at places for a very affordable price, you have tons of options available. Repainting your hardware can be a more affordable option too, so you need to keep that in mind. Don’t discount the accents that aren’t visible when you walk into a room either. Adding contract paper to your shelving or even using drawer organizers is always a good idea and it can add a major vibe to your home.

COSY SCENTS

Making your home smell nice and inviting is a very good way for you to upgrade your space and your budget. Candles, room spray and more can all be very good ways for you to elevate your space and they can also evoke different emotions. Seasonal scents can make your home feel more welcoming and they are easy to swap out as well. If you can keep things like that in mind then you will soon find that it becomes easier for you to get the result you are going for.

CLEAR YOUR SPACE

Clearing your home is also a very good way for you to make it feel better. If you have an extra hour or two at the weekend then you can get some work done. If you want to help yourself here then one thing you need to know is that you don’t have to hire a professional cleaning crew just to get the job done. You can easily declutter and have your space feel more homely as a result. If you have a hard time knowing what should be thrown away and what should be kept then there’s nothing wrong with hiring a little help. Friends are usually more than happy to lend a hand and when you have them round, you may find that they can give you a little more perspective on what has to be done. If you can keep that in mind then your life will become easier.

MAKE A ROOM

If you can, it’s a good idea for you to make room for all of your favorite hobbies. One of the best ways you can do this would be for you to create a little room for all of the things that you love. If you can do this then you will soon find that you can keep everything nice and organized and that you can also really make sure that you have room to be creative whenever you want. Just make sure that your room is set up to give you success, so make sure that you have shelving for all of your paints or even some hangers for your guitars. If you can do this then you will find it is easier for you to crack on with the things that you truly love.

So as you can see, it’s entirely possible for you to make your home feel more like yours. If you don’t feel as though your home is as comfortable as it could be then the above tips should help you to make a change in no time at all. If you feel as though you want to make a bigger impact then make sure that you go through all of the things that you want from your home and then go from there. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier to get the result you want out of your home.

  1. All great points, but I definitely agree with candles and scent. I have a signature scent that instantly says ‘home’ to me and I even take a travel candle with me so I have the same scent in hotel rooms. Sometimes home is a feeling, not a place!
