YOU DON’T FIND JOY NOR INTEREST IN YOUR HOBBIES
I think the first sign of burnout which manifests is when things that brought you joy and comfort don’t interest you anymore. It’s not that those hobbies or interests don’t spark joy anymore or the fact that your hobbies have changed, it’s due to the fact that you can’t seem to enjoy those things because you are not in the right headspace to consume those things.
The best way to deal with this feeling is by taking a break from those hobbies in question. The last thing you want is to make those interests make you feel like a chore or a task to complete on your to-do list. This is also the perfect time to reconnect with your past hobbies or interests, something you enjoyed doing during your childhood. But always remember not to force yourself to do something when you genuinely don’t feel like doing it.

YOU FEEL OVERWHELMED & IRRITATED
I would probably say that this is one of the obvious signs that something isn’t right which is a sense of being overwhelmed and irritation. Especially if you are someone who doesn’t usually let their emotions overpower or overtake them then this is a sign that something is bothering you.
The best way to deal with this feeling is by relaxing yourself. Take a nap, get enough good sleep, listen to music, reduce your screen time, go for a walk, etc. Prioritise yourself and your well-being, this will not only create a safe space for you to relax but also figure out why you felt this specific way in the first place.

YOU ARE GETTING SICK QUITE FREQUENTLY
Last but not least, if you are noticing that you are getting sick quite frequently then this is a sign that your body needs a break. Pushing yourself to work through even when you aren’t feeling well physically will only create impactful long-term consequences in the future.
This is the time where you need a proper rest where you don’t only rest to make yourself feel better physically but also mentally. Completely switch off your brain for a few days and take a break from everything. If you want to sleep for 10 hours and your situation allows you to then sleep for 10 hours. If you want to sit on your balcony for a few hours and not do anything then go for it, do not feel guilty for putting yourself in the first place.

Thank you for sharing these. I have experienced each of these in turn. I have had to learn that the world will never allow me to take a break, I just need to take it. The issues and problems will still be there when I return, but I will have more power to deal with them.
Hey NL 🙂
Love it! 😀
Now I’ll read it — it’s on my list.
I’m hoping you will go beyond merely telling me how to manage the “signs”, and also beyond merely telling me how to manage the “burnout”, … and maybe even beyond places no man has ever gone before … to the New Lune space … where I will be informed about how to manage my life!

Hey NL 🙂
one thing I very much appreciate about your blog is how directly and quickly you get to the point.
So it might seem odd that I would have put this “on my reading list” … but I also enjoy reading your posts so much that I want to read them when I feel pretty much completely unbothered by anything else.
And it’s usually — almost always — a very rewarding experience!
Same today!
🙂 Norbert
