The majority of people often ask this question: what is my purpose in life? I think the reason why this question is most often asked and thought about is because we all want to find a reason or meaning behind both our existence and sufferings. What purpose do we have on this earth? Why do I always have to overcome these many hardships in life?
It can also be extremely confusing and overwhelming when the person next to you seems to have figured out what they want to do with their life, it gives this feeling of loss either for wasting the opportunity you’ve been given or for wasting your potential by staying stagnant & not moving forward.
In today’s post, I wanted to discuss the concept of having a purpose in life and whether or not this notion exists, or can be sustainable in the world we live in right now. As always, if you are interested – keep on reading!

IT’S MUCH MORE THAN YOUR GOALS, PLANS & DREAMS
In my opinion, if there was a purpose in life then I would think it’s much more than your goals, plans and dreams. All those things can bring accolades and achievements including happiness, they can even lead you to a path you never imagined to pursue but they are just an aspect of yourself.
Your passions can reflect and give an insight as to what you like and once again, they can change the trajectory of your life but they are only an aspect of yourself. So many people think their purpose in life is to achieve a dream, goal or plan of theirs which is admirable but what happens after you get to achieve it? Does that mean you don’t have a purpose anymore? Or, what happens if you don’t get to achieve it? Does that mean that your purpose is flawed or non-existent?

IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES
I do think wondering about your purpose in life is a privilege and blessing when many people don’t have that luxury and are on survival mode. How can you think about your purpose, let alone a purpose in general when you are constantly trying to survive? If your circumstances don’t allow you to take a break and relax, how will you be able to find a purpose in life and to life? Is it even fair?
It’s important to note that many people don’t think about a purpose at all, does that mean they don’t live a fulfilling life? Not at all. A purpose can drive you and give you hope, courage and faith to conquer something you set your eyes on but it can be flawed as well. It can give you insecurity, anxiety, disappointment and even fear. It might make you second guess all your actions & words and push you into a state of darkness simply because you don’t have an answer to a question.

IS THERE ANYTHING MORE THAN JOY & PEACE IN LIFE?
I’m pretty sure many of you might have already guessed where I was going with this but I don’t think your purpose in life is something complicated nor complex, you don’t have to go through an existential crisis in order to figure out what your purpose is either. Life is meant to be enjoyed and lived to the fullest.
I don’t think there is anything more fulfilling than being able to enjoy those small joys in life on a daily basis. As long as you are able to live a life where you feel content and at ease then you’ve already achieved your purpose in life.

We don’t think that life has a purpose. We consider it pointless to ponder the meaning of life. Our life has the meaning we want to give it. For us, living with the knowledge that life has no meaning is freedom.

I really love your statement about living with the knowledge that life has no meaning is freedom, it’s such a beautiful way to look at life and purpose. Thank you so much for reading 😊
Nice read. I recently came across a post that spoke about how unique our fingerprints are. We are to leave an imprint in the world.
Thank you! ❤️ Oh, that’s such a lovely analogy.
