How To Protect Your Information As A Blogger.

[AD] We live in a time where everything and anything is easily accessible online. It has its pros but it also has its cons when it involves people’s information. As a blogger, you have the option to choose to share your identity online or keep your identity private – it’s only a matter of personal preference. In addition, you can decide what details about yourself or your life you want to share with your audience.

It may seem like you have everything under control but unfortunately, when it comes to the digital world that is not really the case. In today’s post, I wanted to share with you some ways on how to protect your information as a blogger whether you blog as a hobby or as a business. This could also apply to individuals who use social media platforms as well. As always, if you are interested – keep on reading!

PERFORMING PROFESSIONAL CYBER SECURITY SERVICES

This mainly applies to bloggers who run their own businesses but this could also apply to small business owners or even entrepreneurs who are trying to make into the blogging sphere and that is to carry out professional cyber security services. This might seem extensive but if any of the information you deal online is revolved around your financial and personal details then it’s better to be safe than sorry especially if you have the option to afford those services.

The process is extremely easy depending on the service you go for (since there are so many) but in general, it involves your network and everything associated with it and there will be a testing carried out such as cyber security penetration testing or external penetration testing which are an internal or external infrastructure penetration test done to check IP addresses connected with your organisation, location, etc. This will help determine what information are accessible online and how secure your infrastructure is.

BEING MINDFUL ABOUT THE INFORMATION YOU SHARE ONLINE

This is something I mentioned in the past on my blog but whether you decide to keep your identity/personal details private or not, think twice before sharing any information online because once you share it, you can never remove it or take it back.

You don’t need to have a high level of expertise in order to access those information either, sometimes a simple google search can give out that information and that’s the reason why it’s extremely important to be mindful of the information you do decide to share online.

BEING SELF-AWARE

I think at the end of the day, nobody can protect your information better than you do and that comes with a level of self-awareness. Whatever you decide to do or share, you need to be aware of the potential consequences of your actions and if they are worth the risk. As a blogger, you do have an integrity in terms of honesty but that honesty doesn’t necessarily mean you sharing every single detail of yours online especially if sharing those information don’t make you feel comfortable nor safe.

  1. Hey NL! 😀

It never cease to amaze me — how well you write!

It is so clear to me that you are a “top of the charts” professional, and also that your advice is also professionally very valuable.

I also truly savor the we you create links between your blog posts and thereby refrain from rehashing stuff you may have already written about months or even years ago. By following one of your links to earlier posts above … and then ALSO following a link in the linked-to blog post, I was led to https://new-lune.com/2019/07/30/inspiration-vs-imitation — from now more than 4 years ago (BC — “Before Covid” 😉 )! 😯

I find that post particularly interesting, because much of my own work is about raising awareness for other people’s blog posts. I think I have also shared several of your posts with diverse blogging communities over the years. How do you feel about such sharing? Do appreciate the added exposure, even it’s just a little bit?

I feel your advice is almost always spot on and timely. I know the holidays are a dangerous time to be careless, as there are many more opportunities to potentially get duped by untrustworthy actors.

    🙂 Norbert

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words, Norbert! It really means a lot to me ☺️ Such sharing is always very much appreciated and valued, to me it’s probably one of the kindest and selfless things anyone could do, I cannot thank you enough for your support & kindness.

  2. Absolutely spot on! This digital age has its perks, but let’s face it, there are some serious downsides too. I like how the tips go beyond just blogging—they’re golden for any online activity. Great post!
