REMOVING ALL REMINDERS & EMOTIONAL TRIGGERS

I think it’s extremely important to remove all reminders & emotional triggers that remind you of your trauma if you want to start healing in the first place. There will of course be instances where you will encounter reminders that will trigger your fight-or-flight instinct but at the very beginning, it’s important to start from scratch with a clean state.

As your journey of healing progresses, you will realise that those reminders (or some of them) might not trigger you as much or might not trigger you at all. There is no need to force yourself to consume or face things that trigger a bad reaction out of you for the sake of healing because the art of healing doesn’t require you to get out of your comfort zone, it requires you to create your own set of boundaries to create your own comfort & safe zone.

GIVING YOURSELF TIME TO MOVE ON

Some people have this misconception that healing is a linear journey but it couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s a journey that will fluctuate depending on your circumstance, emotions, mood and people so you have to give yourself time to move on. Don’t expect to feel better instantly and don’t think you will feel terrible for the rest of your life. Time has the ability to heal everything and anything, you have to give yourself that opportunity in order to move on.

FINDING JOYS & REVIVING YOUR INNER CHILD

Last but not least, one of the best things healing does is make you appreciate all the small joys in life. You have to find those small joys in order to live a peaceful life whether it’s things that you enjoy/enjoyed doing or things to revive your inner child – do them without any inhibitions. Try to find what you truly like and look for things that make you fully immerse into them & forget the time.
