A New Year, A New Beginning?

Ever since I was young if there is something I noticed is the fact that many people put a lot of emphasis on the new year which is understandable because it’s literally the start of a new year and there is nothing better than starting a new chapter in your life or turning over a new leaf at the beginning of a new year. However, if there is something I’ve realised is the fact that it can also be the most overwhelming, stressful or ineffective way to start something afresh or new.

Every year, you could plan or envision something which you might accomplish it by the end of the year but you might also not even get to think about it during the entirety of the year. In today’s post, I wanted to share with you some of the things you might need to keep in mind when planning your new year or if you are thinking about your new year’s resolutions. Without further ado, let’s jump into the post!

START YOUR GOALS WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE IT

If you are planning on setting a new goal or plan on the upcoming new year, do not wait until the first of January to do it – you can simply start doing it now. You don’t have to start anything afresh or new in January either, it could be during the middle of the year or even towards the end.

You don’t have to wait a specific time to start doing something, any time is perfect as long as you are ready to do it. Waiting for a specific time will only add unnecessary stress & tension towards a goal that might not even be that stressful to begin with.

YOU DON’T HAVE OR NEED TO DO ANYTHING AT ALL

I think it’s completely normal to set specific goals & plans when starting a new year because most of the times, you do it because you want to better yourself or grow yourself as a person. However, it’s completely ok if you don’t want to set any goal or plan for the new year and go with the flow.

It doesn’t mean that you won’t have a productive or great year, at the end what matters is your mindset and actions. For instance, you might not set a goal for the new year but that doesn’t mean you won’t get to accomplish something you wished for a long time.

CONTENTMENT SHOULD ALWAYS BE THE PRIORITY

I cannot stress how important this is but if there is one goal or resolution you want to set for the new year or any year to be honest, is contentment. Not only does it refer to you being content about the things and relationships you already have in your life but it also refers that those things should already be fulfilling to you and if they are not then it’s something you have to think about it.

In this case being content is more about gratitude and peace – two things that are extremely important if you want to live a peaceful & happy life. When you are content about the things you have and about the aspects of your life, you won’t need any external validation or factor to gain happiness & peace, and neither extra additional things that will only satisfy you temporarily. Be content about those things & relationships and nurture them.

  1. Omg, the first advice got me. I don’t have to wait until a new year to start something new, I could start right now. This was the clarity I needed for my goals. Contentment is something I’ve been struggling with because of constant presence on social media and I’m looking forward to working on it too. Thank you so much for this post and Happy Holidays.

    1. I wouldn’t necessarily say I have a strategy but I try to practice gratitude and enjoy the small joys in life. If I’m not able to find those joys, I try to create them. It’s definitely an ongoing journey that has its ups & downs. Thank you so much for reading ❤️
