If someone were to ask this question, I think many people would have different answers. Some would say that there is of course nothing wrong with wanting something, others might say that it completely depends on the thing they want, a few might say that it depends on how much they want that something whereas others might straight out say that wanting something is bad.
We can all agree that depending on a person’s circumstance and environment, this question might have a lot of layers to it. We all strive to want something but when it becomes too much, there is also a negative connotation attached to it. There is a juxtaposition between dream and greed when it comes to this question and that’s what I wanted explore in today’s post. Without further ado, let’s jump into the post!

IT WOULD BE ABNORMAL IF YOU DIDN’T WANT ANYTHING
I firmly believe that it would be way too abnormal if someone weren’t to want something because it would mean they were conditioned to think that wanting something is inherently bad therefore it’s not something that one should do.
However, wanting something is the complete opposite of it. We all want something on a subconscious level, including our own bodies. The hunger we feel, the exhaustion we have, the pain we hide, which all ultimately lead to food, sleep and comfort—those are all signs that wanting was never something bad but needed, and it’s also something instinctual.

DO YOU NEED A (PRACTICAL) REASON?
Many people would ask this question in relation to wanting something, is there a particular reason as to why you want something? If there is a practical reason then it’s even better because it’s clearly something that you need to have in your life but do you actually need to have a practical reason or any reason at all to begin with?
Don’t get me wrong, in this day and age I think it’s extremely important and crucial to be conscious of your own actions and choices, especially your wants. It doesn’t have anything to do with frugality, but with self-awareness. If you want something because you like it then that’s a good enough reason to want it. You know yourself better than anyone as well as what’s best for you and your circumstance.

WHEN IT STOPS ACKNOWLEDGING GRATITUDE AND FULFILMENT
Greed can be defined by so many things and I don’t necessarily think it manifests when you start wanting too much of something but when you stop acknowledging gratitude and fulfilment when wanting it.
This is related to the previous point but you know what’s best for you better than anyone else. When you get to have something that you’ve wanted, you are not only experiencing joy & contentment but you are also grateful for the opportunity and gift that is in your possession.
However, when that something doesn’t bring you joy, contentment or gratitude anymore, you know better than anyone whether or not it was something you needed, whether it was wrong to want it, or whether if it was something you should have wanted it in the first place.
