DA SCORE

The second which is the most important thing is to increase your DA score, if you’re unfamiliar with this term – it stands for Domain Authority which is a search engine ranking score that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages. A Domain Authority score ranges from 1 to 100, the higher the score is, the better it will be shown on a search engine.

You can check your website’s DA score (or any websites for that matter) using the Moz website. Note that you need to buy your domain name or to be self-hosted in order to have a DA score, if you’re under a hosting platform (www.yourblogname.wordpress.com or http://www.yourblogname.blogspot.com), you don’t have a DA score.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR DA SCORE

Now here’s the big question, how to improve your DA score? There are so many helpful blog posts online you can check, I’ve added the tricks I’ve been doing to increase my DA score below!

NAMING YOUR PICTURES

When uploading your pictures in your website, make sure you name them in the option Alt Text. This option will make sure that if anybody types any of these keywords in a search engine, your pictures will be shown.

USING HEADINGS

I don’t know if this one works but I find using headings improves your DA score and looks much more professional when reading blog posts. What I mean by headings is the option WordPress or Blogger provides you with, not by underlining or making the font in bold.

LINKING OTHER BLOG POSTS

This technique is called internal linking which means you link other blog posts of yours in a blog post. Any search engines – in this case Google – will think that your blog post contains a lot of resources and useful information which will increase your DA score.

COMMENTING WITH YOUR BLOG LINK

Adding your website link when commenting helps a lot as well, this technique is called external linking. This is a good way to promote your blog as well but don’t comment on other people’s blog posts just to add your blog link and to promote your blog which is disrespectful and the blogger in question might remove your comments.

WRITING GUEST POSTS

This is another method of external linking, you can write guest posts for other blogs which will allow you to add/mention your blog so you kill two birds with one stone. You can improve your DA score and promote your blog at the same time!

POSTING CONSISTENTLY

Your DA score will be updated every 5 weeks or so and within that time, you’ve to post consistently on your blog. It doesn’t have to be multiple times per week but make sure you post at least once a week and don’t take any huge breaks which might affect your DA.

REMOVING BROKEN LINKS

Search for any broken links on your website and remove them. Search engines associate broken links as a negative element in your blog so search thoroughly in your comments and blog posts.

UPDATING PLUGINS

If you’ve a self-hosted website, update your plugins and make sure WordPress is up to date. Search engines take those things into consideration when updating your DA score.

  1. Great tips.
But I read somewhere that leaving your link on other blogs is considered “spammy”.
Being relatively new to blogging, I only rarely leave a link.
But since you say it is acceptable, I will be brave about it now.

    1. Thank you! You’re right but it’s only “spammy” when you leave a two word comment and are trying to promote your blog but if you’re leaving genuine comments then there’s no problem leaving a link to your blog 😊

  2. What a fab post! I think I’m doing most of these tips. I’ve gone through all my old posts and added keywords, headers etc. Makes such a difference, plus as you say it looks more professional and breaks up the text. I’m really tying to up my DA. I’m hoping for an improvement with the next update!

  3. Nice one…
There are many ways to create a website but however with certain restrictions. Best way I would like to suggest is to know the basics of web designing with html and css and then start creating the website of you choice. #www.bynd.co.in

  4. Love these! All of these are really awesome ways to rank on googles first page. What i like most about these tips is that they are all white hat techniques!

    1. Links that don’t work or dead links. If you click on these links, it will tell you that these pages or websites don’t exist anymore.

  5. Hi New Lune! I read through the entire blog post and it is filled with such valuable information, thank you so much for sharing. I have a Q about DA Scores. You mentioned that you need to purchase your domain or host your own website to have a DA Score. If I’m doing my blog with WordPress, and purchased my own domain through them, then I do have a DA Score, correct? I had no idea this existed!
    Thank you,
    Nat

    1. Thank you Nat! Yes you do have a DA score! If you’ve bought your domain name using a WordPress plan then your website will automatically have a DA score x

    2. Great! Thank you so much for sharing and thank you even more for replying. Greetings from Peru 🙂

    1. Thank you! If you have a self-hosted website, you can use a plugin to remove them but if you have a website on a hosting service like WordPress.com and Blogger, you’ll have to remove them manually which will take a lot of time and effort but you don’t have any other options x

  6. very informative, lots of thanks for sharing this , i am new in blogging, and i know the things that help me to get success, thanks again.

  7. Great post on SEO. You may want to mention about site speed. Website speed is a factor in search engine rankings as is mobile speed.

  8. I didn’t know about naming your pictures. I’ll defo have to add that one to the Arsenal. Thank you 😊

  11. Great article – thank you! Though I’d make a correction to one thing: the Alt Text on images doesnt affect that much. It’s supposed to be a description of the picture for visually impaired, for example, so you can’t write anything there. Also, Google doesnt index a lot of pictures unless they are commercial or of uber amazing quality, original and meet other requirements. And if your pictures are not indexed by Google, then they are not returned in the search. As far as I know, it’s more important to ensure that the name of the picture is meaningful, and not something like “image123” – none of the search engines like vagueness.

  12. Great article – thank you for putting it all together! Though I’d make one correction re Alt Text on images. It doesnt really do that much – not that it’s not important. But it’s supposed to be a description of the picture for – e.g. – a visually impaired person, so you can’t put anything there. Also, Google doesnt index all pictures in a blog post. Unless an image is commercial, original, is of uber amazing quality, and meets other requirements, it doesn’t get indexed. And if Google doesnt index it, it does not come up in the search. As far as I know, the actual name of the image is more important – as long as it’s not something vague like “image123” that’s good. Search engines don’t like vagueness 🙂

  13. Hi
Without a doubt, one of the best articles I’ve ever read (and I read lots of them). Love the way you have explained each and every point. Thank you so much. Keep it up!
