3 Ways to Regain Control When You Feel Lost.

There is no such thing as having control over your life because there is no guarantee or certainty over anything including both significant and insignificant things. With that said, you have the power to bring back a sense of control within yourself which I know, sounds like a contradicting statement but it is very much true.

In today’s post, I wanted to share with you some ways on how to regain control within yourself when you are feeling lost and overwhelmed. The majority of the times, we lose control due to circumstances and external factors and that is what I wanted to explore and talk about in this post. Without further ado, let’s jump into the post!

DEMANDING RESPECT

As I mentioned above, one of the reasons why we feel lost and a lack of control is due to external factors and the majority of the times those issues are created by other people. Sometimes, those issues are inevitable and you cannot blame either party (including yourself) but other times, those issues could have been prevented which is when things get complex.

When you feel this way, it’s extremely important that you demand respect for yourself which there is nothing confrontational about it. This respect can be translated into space, time and even actions or words, it completely depends on your situation and personal preference. For example, if you require time to come back and deal with a problem and if it’s something doable then it’s totally okay to take time for yourself. This isn’t only a request that should be respected but it’s also a form of respect you demand for yourself.

NOT ALLOWING DESPERATION TO TAKE THE LEAD

During moments of pure confusion, desperation may take the lead but it’s important that you don’t allow it to overpower you. You cannot make a wise, practical or fully formed decision when you are filled with desperation because the only thing you will want to see is a solution and a quick fix to this situation/problem, but when desperation arrives, it tags along other issues as well. It doesn’t always bring a solution but adds more things on your plate even if you are not able to see it at the beginning.

FOCUSING ON THE PRESENT

One of the quickest ways to regain control when you are feeling lost is by focusing on the present which sounds pretty repetitive and cliché but it’s probably the most effective and easiest way to be in control when you feel like everything around you is confusing, uncertain and overwhelming.

Focusing on the present may seem like a generic statement but it actually covers contentment, fulfilment and joy which eventually leads to peace. Being in the moment isn’t just about experiencing small joys on a daily basis but it’s also about closing the past and making peace with the future. When you stop overthinking about your past and over-worrying about your future, you reach into the moment that is your just ‘now’ where you are supposed to live in and try to enjoy life for what it is instead of trying to survive it.
