7 Blogging Mistakes To Avoid

We can all agree we’ve made a number of mistakes along our blogging journey and I will be the first person to admit that. Sometimes we do make mistakes unknowingly which might have an impact later on when you want to turn your blog into a business. I’ve gathered a list of blogging mistakes to avoid which will hopefully help you out!

NOT DOING RESEARCH

Writing a blog post is more crucial than it seems to be because you want to make sure your content is not only helpful but efficient as well. Sometimes due to a busy schedule, it can be very tempting to write a post without doing enough research.

Obviously when you’re writing about your favourite lipsticks, you don’t have to do an intensive research but when you’re writing about topics that requires a lot more information and details then make sure you do your research first.

DOING LIKE OTHERS

When it comes to blogging, individuality is a trait to look out for and it’s something very important. There isn’t any restrictions in terms of niches, there are literally thousands or even millions of bloggers in the same niche but you’ve to make sure that your content is unique and original.

It’s very easy to fall into the trap and to copy another blogger’s ideas or content thinking if they’re successful doing this type of content then I’ll do the same with mine and that will work, but unfortunately it doesn’t work out that way.

When you start off with a bad step, it will only have a negative impact on your blog. I’m not saying you shouldn’t get inspired by other bloggers’ content but there’s a fine line between inspiration and plagiarism, and it’s very easy to get overboard with it.

PROMOTING THE WRONG WAY

This is something I’m guilty of and still haven’t got the hang of it, you could write the most informative and detailed blog post but if you don’t promote it efficiently then you will not get traffic to your blog post.

There are so many social media platforms available such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest. You can use all these platforms mentioned and get traffic from them but you can still use them in a much more efficient way. Most of the times, it’s more than leaving a link to your latest blog post, you’ve to create & implement strategies in order to get people to read your post.

In addition, I think it’s pretty self explanatory but using another blog’s comment section isn’t wise. You might get views if the blog in question gets a lot of traffic but it represents your blog in an unprofessional manner.

WRITING RANDOMLY

One of the ways to get more traffic to your blog is to post consistently but it can be very difficult if you’re busy with school or life in general. Quality is always over quantity, don’t write and publish a blog post just for the sake of it. Your audience wants to read quality content from you, they’d rather wait and read something useful from you than something that doesn’t help them in any way.

NOT INTERACTING WITH OTHERS

I always find it ‘weird’ when bloggers don’t interact with their followers because the whole point of blogging is to interact. You can get so much traffic and views just by checking other bloggers’ blog posts and replying to their comments.

HAVING A NEGATIVE MIND

I don’t think it’s bad to start a blog to earn money from it and to receive free goodies because these are one of the pros of having a blog. However if your intention is purely based on that factor and you don’t like blogging then I think that’s an issue. If you get easily jealous by the opportunities other bloggers receive, I feel you’ve to work more on yourself.

The blogging industry has a tons of opportunities and places for a lot of bloggers but you’ve to work hard to get them. It’s not handed to you on a plate and there’s a lot more happening behind the scenes that people don’t see.

EXPECTING

For me, the whole point of blogging was to support other bloggers but this year I’ve realised that you shouldn’t have to support all the bloggers in this industry, it doesn’t matter how many followers they have or how successful they are. It’s all about your personal preferences and others don’t have a say in it.

With that said, I do have a problem when some bloggers don’t acknowledge nor support any bloggers in any type of way but do expect them to interact on their blogs. It doesn’t make any sense, right? There’s nothing wrong with not supporting but you shouldn’t expect anything either, that’s quite unfair.

  1. Great post. I am 100% on board with not writing randomly or for the sake of publishing a post. I always think “What will my readers learn from this post? How do they gain from it?”. If it’s not useful, I don’t publish it.

  2. I love your blog! I really enjoy reading your articles. You speak a lot of sense, topics are helpful and everything is interesting. Thank you 😊

  3. Great post. I’ve actually seen bloggers that write about bloggers not supporting others but in reality they themselves don’t support others so I think it’s all a game people are playing just to gain readers to their blog. Thanks for sharing ❤

  4. This is exactly why I love your post and follow you. Good, practical advice on blogging, with no sugar coating. Loved the article! 😀

  5. I like your advice, “I think it’s pretty self explanatory but using another blog’s comment section isn’t wise. You might get views if the blog in question gets a lot of traffic but it represents your blog in an unprofessional manner.”
Well said.Thank you for the great tips.

  6. These are great to know, especially since I’ve just started out blogging! I’ll try to avoid doing these lol! Thank you! X

    1. Thank you lovely! That happened to me as well 2 years ago, that’s why I always stress about posting consistently but with that said, it’s better to post something that others will find helpful than post something just for sake of it ☺️

  7. Hi this is really useful as I have absolutely 0 stats and I try really hard on my blog. I feel bad advertising on other people’s blog but can you please check my blog it will really help thanks .

  8. These are some great tips. Research is one of the main things I do when talking about a brand or technique it is so important. By not doing it, it is so easy to send out the wrong information.

  9. Lovely advice! So true that it can be real frustrating to balance blogging with other life committments, but so long as you keep your blog consistent and regularly updated, it certainly helps maintain that core group of readers who will appreciate your content and look forward to new stuff.
I’ve found that if you’re totally comfortable with whatever niche your blog fits into and what YOU yourself want from it, then it makes things a whole lot easier and less stressful to worry about. Either people will like what you publish and enjoy reading new posts, or they don’t and won’t. Whatever you publish, if you’re genuinely passionate about it then it shines through in the content, and so many readers will appreciate that enthusiasm for a subject you love. Keep it up! ❤

    1. Thank you Tom! What you said is so right, if you’re genuinely passionate about what you write, it will definitely show through your content ❤️

  10. I have supported a lot of bloggers but find that nobody re-blogs any of my posts or shares any of my blog posts on social media, which in a way does not encourage me to keep blogging. I have links to your blog “New Lune” on my WordPress Beginners and WordPress Guidelines blogs.

    1. Ahh no, don’t feel discouraged! I completely get how you feel but don’t let those little things discourage you from blogging. Thank you for the love, I appreciate it so much x

  11. It’s a really interesting topic, I’m really glad and happy that you shared this post with us, and like me I’m a new blogger and trying to share my favorite beauty products and traveling journey. I admit it that I sometimes don’t do a lot of research before posting anything which is wrong. It’s definitely a very important step when writing/review a product 👍🏻. Thank you 🙏🏻

  12. Thank you so much for sharing these tips! I’ve been posting on my blog for a month now and I’m very happy ❤ I see that you have many posts about this kind of topic, I'll check them out 😀
    Cheers!

  13. Thank you so much! This is so useful and easy to read. Sometimes when you read tips about blogging you end up more confuse than before….🙈
