5 Things You Need to Do Before Turning Into a Full-Time Blogger

I’m pretty sure every blogger’s goal at one point is to turn your blog into a full-time job, that would be the dream! But before becoming a full-time blogger, it’s important that you do/have certain things in order to be financially stable and rely on your blog as a career.

I’m sure you already know this but it’s essential that you get paid opportunities regularly and consistently. You might receive 2 to 3 paid opportunities every month (which is amazing) but if they only bring you £50 each, that won’t be enough to pay your rent and bills. As a blogger, you’ll be more financially secure if you receive multiple paid opportunities every month and you’ll know for a fact that you can rely on your blog’s income for a living.

You don’t need thousands nor millions of followers in order to become a full-time blogger but it’s important that you have a good amount of followers when it comes to social media. I reckon if you have more than 5k of followers, it’s definitely a good start. You’ll start to receive great opportunities on your social media platforms and your blog. Note that your social media platforms have to grow gradually if you expect to get more opportunities regularly.

This one is pretty obvious but if you want to make a living out of your blog, you need to get a lot of traffic on your blog. You need at least thousands of page views every month, so work on your blog content and traffic!

It takes a lot of time and energy to run a blog full-time. Before you go full-time with it, you need to make sure you are ready for it. You have to spare time to run your blog as well as your other priorities whether it’s your child, home, school, etc.

Last but not least, if you want to turn your blog into a business, make sure you have multiple sources of income. This ties with everything I’ve mentioned previously. In order to have multiple sources of income, you need to have a large number of followers on social media, get a lot of traffic on your blog and receive paid opportunities regularly.

Whether it’s sponsored posts, ads on your blog, affiliate sales, etc. you need to have at least two to three sources of income in order to be financially secure. For instance, if you only rely on one source of income – let’s just say sponsored posts – if you don’t receive any sponsored content for this month, you will be in a very difficult situation.

  2. i love how you mention you need thousands (at least) of pageviews a month, it makes me feel accomplished lol
i do need to work more on my site so i can get bigger numbers, but i think im at a good place 🙂
Thank you so much for the tips!!

  3. I’m definitely not ready to take blogging full time, but I would love to one day! I’ve had some weird hurdles lately, my DA score randomly dropped a ton when I had been working on it for months. No Idea what happened there, but I hope things go back to normal soon. Great post!

    1. Moz recently updated their domain authority tool and a lot of websites’ DA scores went down drastically which sucks 😔 thank you hun ❤️

  4. I am a Chinese junior high student YouTuber and blogger, and I am busy with my study in my school and my home, even outside. Thanks for your useful article, but I don’t want to be a full-time blogger and YouTuber, they are my hobbies, not my careers.
Last week, teachers around my school discovered my website and my YouTube channel. I got about 50 views and 1 follower in my blog, and 1 subscriber in my YouTube channel on that day.

  5. I wish paid opportunities could be more regular! You can never gauge when they will come along so it’s not easy relying on it as a sole income as you say. I agree with the 5k mark on Social Media, I see lots of accounts with 5k or more getting opportunities! Will keep on trying x

  6. What would you recommend that someone start with if they’re looking for blogging to eventually turn into a profitable side-hustle?

It’s so tricky trying to navigate whether I should be focusing solely on content / upload schedules (since that helps me to grow my followers), or whether I should be focusing on things that actually grow blog traffic (such as SEO / promotion)

    1. I’d highly recommend to focus on your blog content and being consistent with your upload schedules first and then focus on your blog traffic. When you publish good quality blog posts regularly, it’s easier to grow your traffic whereas if you didn’t pay attention to your content and schedule, there wouldn’t be any point of growing your blog traffic because you won’t be able to turn people who visit your website into regular readers.

  7. Great adice. It’s certainly my aim to get to full time blogging about a subject that I love ! Thank you !

  8. Thanks for introducing yourself to me by liking my article. Yours was very informative with sound advice. Blessings to you.

  9. Is it possible to become a full time blogging without social media. I can’t get it till I’m 18 so I’m trying to find alternative ways to grow my blog/ YouTube channel.

    1. Yes! Social media will help you and might bring you additional sources of income and exposure. However, you can absolutely become a full-time blogger without social media as long as you get traffic to your blog.

  10. Hi, I have a question! How do you get your own domain? like without the WordPress.com in the end? Is there any free or easy way to do it? How did you do it? Thanks! xoxo
