Best Foundations For Dry Skin

Worry is the misuse of imagination.

Hey Loves! I hope you’re doing well, finding the right foundation for your skin type can be one of the hardest thing if you don’t know where to begin. In my case, finding a foundation for my dry skin was very difficult, there were so many misses and I thought I couldn’t find a foundation with the finish and formula I wanted. If you’ve dry skin and are searching for the perfect foundation then keep on reading!

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT FOUNDATION

Before choosing the right foundation, there are so many questions you’ve to ask yourself, it’s the only way you can find the best foundation for your skin type. Firstly, ask yourself where are your problematic areas – is it your forehead, around your nose, cheeks, chin, etc.

Then think about the time when your skin is the most driest, if it’s during the colder months then you probably don’t have dry skin as your skin type. In addition, having dry skin during the colder seasons isn’t the same as having dry skin throughout the year.

For some people, their skin gets drier when they’re stressed, during their period, etc. so think about all the factors that can deteriorate your skin. Sometimes, you need to do more than finding the right foundation but work on your diet and lifestyle routine in order to have good skin.

FORMULA

Once you’ve found your problematic areas and other potential factors, you pretty much know the coverage you want whether it’s light to medium coverage or medium to full coverage – it all depends on your personal preferences.

When choosing a foundation, it’s very important you see the formula and consistency in order to check if the foundation in question is going to work on your skin. Some formulas might be hydrating and some might emphasise your pores. Over the years, I’ve tried all types of foundations from powder to cream and not everything worked out for me.

TYPES OF FOUNDATION

Liquid | this is one of the best foundation types for dry skins because since the formula is in a liquid form, it allows your skin to get some form of hydration and you can mix a liquid illuminator or facial oil to create your own concoction. Also, some liquid foundations have serums and vitamins mixed in them so they’re really good for your skin.

Cream | Cream foundations are another favourite of mine, they work really well on your skin and sometimes they can be tricky if the formula isn’t creamy and hard to blend on your skin but if you moisturise your skin beforehand then it will be fine.

Powder | In my opinion, I wouldn’t recommend powder foundations because I had such a bad experience with them. They make your face look cakey and enlarge your pores.

TIPS

Obviously if you want to have a flawless face, you’ve to make sure you’re taking good care of your skin. Having a skincare routine will remove any dead skin and minimise your pores.

Some people see a difference by using a primer, they see their makeup last a lot longer but personally for me I don’t see any difference but it might not be the case for you. Try a primer and who knows, it might be a game changer!

As I mentioned previously, it doesn’t matter what foundation you choose – you can create your own concoction by mixing certain products together for instance a liquid illuminator, moisturiser, facial oil, etc.

  1. I love my revlon, maybelline, mac and mufe during the cooler months when my skin is dry! I also love the rimmel lasting finish on drier skin days. It gives a beautiful finish and lasts for a long time! Loreal Lumi never worked for me sadly no matter how I applied it and at whatever season! I’ll definitely try the others you mentioned here! Loved the post! x

    1. I tried the rimmel one but it didn’t really work out for me but I might give it another try! The L’Oréal Lumi didn’t work for me at the beginning either but ever since I mixed it with a facial oil, it does wonders to my skin! Thank you love x

  2. This is such a great post! I’ve always struggled with foundation as my skin is always too dry, especially on my forehead. Now I never wear foundation, but I’ll definitely have to try a few of these out 🙂 x

    1. Thank you so much Sophie! I always struggle around the bridge of my nose 😩 Mix a facial oil with your foundation or even with your moisturiser, it’ll make such a difference to your skin! x

  3. ReVlon color stay, milani 2 in 1 and maybelline are awesome. Thanks for this tips.

Oh one observation though. I have oily skin and the Revlon color stay is really good for my skin but i noticed it dries up fast if you don’t blend on time.

So i’m wondering if this is a good choice for someone with dry skin?

    1. You’re welcome gorgeous! I use the Revlon ColorStay foundation for normal/dry skin and it works perfectly for me, it’s very hydrating and the staying power is really good. So I’d 100% recommend it! Also I agree with you, you’ve to blend it quickly otherwise it dries up fast.

  4. Such a good informative post! I don’t have dry skin, never had as I’m always the oily skinned girl but this winter really took to my skin hard! So I understand what you said about having dry skin in the winter is not really about being dry skinned in general! I think I’ll buy one of these drugstore foundations and keep them in my collection just for the dry skin days I get haha!

    1. Thank you beaut! Mix a facial oil or moisturiser with your foundation, it makes a huge difference! (I feel like I’m telling you this multiple times but it does work, I promise lol! 😅)

  5. My skin is very dry, especially on my forehead and around my nose, I agree the Bourjois one is fantastic 🙂 I’ve found using the Botanics Radiance Balm as a primer really good, as it gives a nice amount of hydration aswell as giving the Makeup a nice dewy base xx

    1. Thanks a lot! Oh I never heard of this brand before, I’ll make sure to check it out! I love liquid foundations too, they’re my favourite types of foundation! x

    2. Ahh sounds amazing! Love the fact it doesn’t test on animals and it only contains natural ingredients, it’s a definitely a thumbs up from me! 💗

  6. I have the same struggle with my dry skin. Finding a foundation that works isn’t easy, often they’re expensive so it can be waste of money too! As you say a liquid always works better for me. I’ve just used up my no7 stay perfect super light foundation which again, is a liquid formula. Otherwise I use a tinted moisturiser. I hate that dry right feeling you get with some foundations.

    1. Exactly, I’d rather try a drugstore foundation than a high end one, you never know if it’s going to work out! I haven’t tried the no7 foundation (any of their products to be exact 😅), I’ll definitely check it out. I love to use tinted moisturisers as well, my favourite “concoction” is to mix a facial oil or a moisturiser with your foundation – the final result is amazing! x

  7. The Bourjois healthy mix serum foundation is one of my favourite foundations ever. I have combo/oily/dehydrated skin and I really love it for its finish. I haven’t used the Revlon colorstay in forever tbh but I remember liking that too for winter months.

After my Bourjois runs out, I’m thinking to either try out L’oreal or Maybelline!

    1. It’s such a good foundation, isn’t it! The Revlon Colorstay foundation is the perfect foundation during the winter, it makes my skin hydrated and gives me a healthy glow.

I’d definitely recommend to try the Maybelline one, it’s really amazing! The L’Oréal one is great as well but I usually mix it with a facial oil, I don’t use it on its own whereas the Maybelline foundation, I don’t mix it with anything and it gives me a radiant looking skin x

    1. I’d recommend liquid foundations over stick ones, in my opinion depending on the stick foundations they work the best on dry skins whereas liquid foundations work pretty much on every skin type.

A tip I’d say is to use a primer before you apply your foundation, it’d make sure your base stays in place and doesn’t move 💗
