The Best Foundations For Your Skin Type

Your base is the most important part of your makeup routine. It doesn’t matter what skin type you have, the end result we all want is flawless looking skin. Ever since I’ve started wearing makeup, I researched a lot to find out which type of foundation would suit the best on my skin type.

Along the way, I found a lot of information for other skin types as well as mine. So, here I am with you today! If you would like to find out what’s the best foundation for your skin type then keep on reading!

I’m pretty sure you already know by now that I have dry skin but it’s literally the hardest skin type to work with! You should always give importance to your skincare, no matter what skin type you have but for people with dry skin – it’s just much more important.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to moisturise your skin and to follow a skincare regime. If you have dry skin, you are usually looking for a natural or dewy finish and not matte because it will emphasise your dry patches.

Once you know the finish you would like, it’s time to check the coverage which is obviously up to your personal preference. Some people prefer a medium to full coverage whilst others prefer a sheer to medium coverage.

If you have dry skin, I’d highly recommend to check cream and liquid foundations. Never go for powder foundations! I’ve listed some of my favourite & best foundations for dry skin down below:

I would say the majority of people have oily or combination skin which is very common. If you are only oily on certain areas of your face for example your T-Zone area or around your nose and have dry skin on your chin & forehead areas then you most definitely have combination skin.

People who have oily skin would prefer a natural or matte finish because of the oiliness they produce therefore the types of foundations that suit them the most are either liquids or powders. I’d highly recommend to avoid cream products because it might emphasise your ‘oily’ areas and make you look much oilier when you’ve worn it for a long period of time.

As always, you can choose the foundations you would like depending on the coverage you are going for but the finish you need to go for is either matte or natural. I’ve listed down below some of the cult favourites for oily skin:

Finally, we have normal skin! People who have normal skin don’t really have either issues people who have dry or oily skin have. Their skin don’t produce oil and their skin isn’t dry or dehydrated either.

They can pretty much use any types of foundation and go for any finish; it doesn’t matter if it’s matte, natural or dewy. If you are looking for a sheer coverage foundation, I’d recommend to go for a CC cream. I’ve listed some go-to foundations for people who have normal skin down below:

    1. Thank you! Actually I don’t like that picture but I didn’t want to use my other spare pictures that I have so I opted for this one 🙂

  1. I have combination/oily skin but I actually don’t like matte foundations! I like natural dewy finishes but obviously I need to find one that doesn’t break apart after hours of wear and can withstand oil.

  2. I’m also on the dry side but I use the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation which states that its suppose to be a matte finish, however, applied on my skin, its sheer and not matte at all. I apply it a little bit of oil on my face before I moisturize (not sure if thats the reason) and I blend the foundation with a damp beauty blender. This foundation does not dry out my skin. With this post I can actually explore a wider range of foundations for my skin type, thanks!

    1. That’s absolutely the reason hun! If a foundation states matte finish, I usually mix a couple of drops of facial oil and the foundation in question – and it does wonders! My pleasure 😘
