I don’t even feel embarrassed to admit that I overthink, overanalyse and over-worry about everything. I definitely think it’s partially due to my anxiety and I thought with time, maybe this habit would disappear but sadly, it doesn’t. Over the past year, I’ve learnt to manage and control my emotions which definitely helped me stop overthinking about every single thing because it was becoming unhealthy and it was draining my energy as well.
If you are an over-thinker like me then you completely understand what I’m saying. In today’s post, I wanted to share with you 4 ways to stop overthinking. It’s obviously not something you can stop overnight but you can learn to forget about it which kind of gives the illusion of “stopping” it.

Je pense vraiment que c’est en partie à cause de mon anxiété et j’ai pensé avec le temps, peut-être que cette habitude disparaîtrait, mais malheureusement, ce n’est pas le cas. Au cours de l’année écoulée, j’ai appris à gérer et à contrôler mes émotions, ce qui m’a définitivement aidé à arrêter de trop réfléchir à chaque chose parce que cela devenait malsain et épuisait aussi mon énergie.
Si vous êtes un sur-penseur comme moi, vous comprenez parfaitement ce que je dis. Dans le post d’aujourd’hui, je voulais partager avec vous quatre façons d’arrêter de trop réfléchir. Ce n’est évidemment pas quelque chose que vous pouvez arrêter du jour au lendemain, mais vous pouvez apprendre à l’oublier, ce qui donne l’illusion de «l’arrêter».

LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE
Whenever you catch yourself overthinking or over-worrying, take a pause and assess the situation. Take a step back and look at the bigger picture, this will help you see things in a new perspective. Most of the times, our minds create problems that don’t even exist in the first place. Plus, ask yourself if the problem or situation in question will matter next week or in a couple of months or years.
Chaque fois que vous vous surprenez à trop réfléchir ou à vous inquiéter, faites une pause et évaluez la situation. Prenez du recul et regardez la situation dans son ensemble, cela vous aidera à voir les choses dans une nouvelle perspective. La plupart du temps, notre esprit crée des problèmes qui n’existent même pas en premier lieu. De plus, demandez-vous si le problème ou la situation en question importera la semaine prochaine ou dans quelques mois ou années.

KEEP YOURSELF BUSY
Something that really stops you from overthinking is keeping yourself busy. This is something I’ve been doing it for years and trust me, it has helped me tremendously! Obviously, I don’t know if it’s a healthy way to cope with it but at least I know I won’t have time to think about anything else other than my work. You can keep yourself busy by doing something that you like as well or by doing a chore that will require you to just focus on something else other than the issue in question.
Quelque chose qui vous empêche vraiment de trop réfléchir est de vous tenir occupé. C’est quelque chose que je fais depuis des années et croyez-moi, cela m’a énormément aidé! De toute évidence, je ne sais pas si c’est une façon saine d’y faire face, mais au moins je sais que je n’aurai pas le temps de penser à autre chose que mon travail. Vous pouvez vous tenir occupé en faisant quelque chose que vous aimez aussi ou en faisant une corvée qui vous obligera à vous concentrer sur autre chose que le problème en question.

FOCUS ON A HOBBY & TAKE A BREAK
Taking a break to relax and just breathe is so important during this time. Not only will it help your mind stop from being all over the place but it will also help you disconnect and look at that situation in a better perspective.
Prendre une pause pour se détendre et simplement respirer est si important pendant cette période. Non seulement cela aidera votre esprit à cesser d’être partout, mais cela vous aidera également à vous déconnecter et à regarder cette situation dans une meilleure perspective.

TALK TO A LOVED ONE
If shifting your focus doesn’t help then talking to a loved one and seeking advice from them can help you see the situation in a better way. Obviously, talk to people who can help you assess the situation and help relieve your stress & anxiety. You don’t want to talk to people who will make things a thousand times worse and ruin the little peace you already have left.
Si changer votre concentration ne vous aide pas, parler à un être cher et demander conseil à lui peut vous aider à mieux voir la situation. Évidemment, parlez à des personnes qui peuvent vous aider à évaluer la situation et à soulager votre stress et votre anxiété. Vous ne voulez pas parler à des gens qui aggraveront les choses mille fois plus et ruineront le peu de paix qui vous reste.

These are all great suggestions Lune. Taking a break I am finding is such a necessary thing these days especially where so many of us are still trapped indoors. Keeping yourself busy is the best and can be the only advise I need. Haha! Busy doesn’t have to be a job, it includes hobbies, nurturing relationships, etc. – actions in general. At least to me, it’s the lack of action that lets you slip into overthinking. If filled with action, by the time you take a break, you just do need to take a break in both mind and body, because you’re tired. 😀

Great tips! I also apply those in my life. Another one that I’d add is to allow the fear to settle in and accept that part of us that is anxious. I try “talking” to it, I allow myself to go into the worst case scenario and tell myself what i’d do to resolve the problem. When I do that, the issue seems less scary… xoxo My

I have become much less of an over thinker since I began writing again around seven years ago. I think writing helps one keep the mind and thoughts on the now, that being the paragraph, sentence or even word. Writing also makes time fly by, at least for me. Thanks.

Mindfulness is amazing for over thinkers but it takes patience and practice. Having an autoimmune disease causes a lot of anxiety and I have found that meditation has really helped me not get lost in my thoughts.

I try not to, but it’s hard. Mindfulness is not for me. Distractions rarely work. I am overthinking my overthinking and going nuts! Lol
