How To Plan Effectively As A Blogger

It can be difficult to be organised and plan effectively as a blogger when you have so much going on in your life whether it’s school or work, you definitely need to find a balance and routine. In today’s blog post, I’m going to show you how I plan effectively as a blogger and how to find a routine for your blog.

EDITORIAL CALENDAR

This is optional but this is something that helped me a lot when I started to create a routine for my blog, an editorial calendar can be so handy if you don’t know what or when to schedule your blog posts. It’ll make sure that every month you know what blog posts to write which can be very helpful if you can’t brainstorm for blog post ideas. In addition, you can prepare beforehand your blog posts for the next 3, 6 or even 12 months! Obviously, you can change and edit your blog posts up to your preference but this will make sure your blog doesn’t take any huge breaks or hiatus.

PLANNER

It’s essential that you plan on a weekly basis for your blog in terms of planning and scheduling your social media posts, working on blog posts, taking blog pictures, etc. If you use a planner, it’ll be much more structured and organised so you’ll know what to do each week and it’ll make sure that you are working on all the aspects of your blog and you don’t fall behind your editorial calendar.

TO-DO LIST

Your to-do lists is mainly what you have to do on a daily basis for your blog, this can be adding a widget to your blog theme, finishing a blog post, taking pictures, posting a picture on Instagram, etc.

PREPARATION OF YOUR BLOG POSTS

Once you have your editorial calendar planned, don’t wait any longer and start working on your blog posts as soon as possible. Write as many blog posts as you can and make sure the blog posts are fully completed, for instance for me I need to make sure that my blog posts are translated in French as well.

BLOG PICTURES

As I mentioned a couple of times before, take your blog pictures beforehand with the props you have unless you’re writing about a specific product. As winter is approaching, it can be a hassle to find natural daylight so whenever the weather is sunny and you get the opportunity to take blog pictures, go for it! It’s the same process as writing your blog posts, take as many pictures as possible so from that way you don’t have to worry about not having a thumbnail picture for your blog posts.

DEADLINES

If you’re serious about blogging and want to turn your blog into a business then create deadlines for your blog whether it’s for a blog post or Instagram post. Having deadlines will make sure you’re not behind your blog content and don’t miss anything important.

WORKING ON A DAILY BASIS

This is something I’ve been doing for almost 2 years now, work every single day on your blog, whether it’s for 3 hours or 10 minutes, you have to spare time for it and work efficiently on your blog. It can be extremely hard depending on your situation but the result is so worth it!

WORKING ON YOUR PHONE

You don’t have to work every single day on your laptop or desktop either, you can work on your phone as well. I work 2 days per week on my phone and during the days I’m not able to reach my laptop, I work from my phone.

  1. Always fabulous advice. I’m not great at planning. I try, but I’ve always got so much else going on! I can’t use the integral WP scheduler as it doesn’t seem to work with my theme. When I
Schedule a post it just sits there and doesn’t publish! I’ll have to find an external plugin. Thanks for sharing these great tips!

    1. I created my editorial calendar using a Word document lol 😂 but the calendar app in your phone is a great one as well! Some bloggers prefer using a notebook so it’s all up to your preferences x

  7. Thank you for these suggestions! I’m working on getting an editorial calendar together. I do it for my clients but always tend to do my blog posts last-minute when i realize I haven’t posted. I definitely want it to be more like my clients’ blogs are so what I do for others shows on my own work for 2019. Great tips!

  10. Some great tips here. I am new to the blogging scene and having been thinking about preparing future content. This week I’m trying to write as much extra as I can to make sure I have a library I can pull from in case I have writers block. This being new though I’m still kind of scared about putting myself out there! But one of my big goals from this is to push my own boundaries and challenge myself so I must keep pushing! Thank you for the advice!

  11. Question, how do you feel about using free pictures as thumbnails? I only ask this because Unsplash is a website where professional photographers upload their pictures for others to use for free. I use it quite often, at times I use my own. Great read by the way! 🙂

    1. I used to use free pictures as thumbnails back in the day and I don’t see anything wrong with it. If you don’t have time to take pictures or if you’re still working on your blog photography, it’s a great way to use these pictures. They are here for a reason! Thank you 💗
