How I Plan & Create Content On My Blog

Planning and creating content on your blog is probably one of the hardest part of blogging, even when you know what to write. Whether it’s to brainstorm blog post ideas or to write the actual blog post, you need to plan and be organised in order to follow your schedule.

In my case, I work on my blog 5 to 6 hours (sometimes even more) everyday so planning my content is a must if I want to have an efficient and productive day. Some blog posts take me a good 2 to 3 hours to write depending on the topic, translation, etc. If you would like to know how I plan my content on my blog, keep on reading!

PLAN YOUR CONTENT ON A WEEKLY OR MONTHLY BASIS

We all have lives outside our blogs that’s the reason why it’s so important to plan your blog posts on a weekly or monthly basis in advance. It obviously makes the job much easier when you know what you are going to write as opposed to not knowing what you are going to write for that week.

That’s why brainstorming blog post ideas in advance is so important, that way you won’t have to worry about what to write. Obviously, you might go through instances when you will have to publish extra blog posts if you have to publish certain collaborations within a certain deadline.

Once you’ve planned your content for the following week or month, write those blog posts whenever you have the time. A common mistake that most bloggers make is they wait until the last minute to write the blog posts so they either have to hurry or don’t have time to write.

The best way to save all that stress is to organise and plan your editorial calendar in advance. Some people prefer to use a traditional planner whilst others prefer to use a digital one. I would say it all depends on your personal preference. Personally, I love a bit of both.

THE RESOURCES I USE

  • planner
  • editorial calendar

I usually use an editorial calendar that I created myself for specific blogging tasks and a traditional planner for my blog content. I recently received the Daily Goal Setter Planner by Mål Paper which is probably the best product I’ve ever received! The reason why I love it so much is the fact it’s gratitude journal and productivity planner in one.

You can easily structure and organise your tasks for the day, week and month. In addition, I love the fact that you can write your daily affirmations and the things you are grateful for which is something that will really help you to be more mindful. There is a section where you can write notes as well.

One of the things I really like about this planner is that throughout the planner, there are multiple quotes written. If you check at the bottom of each page, you will find a different inspirational/motivational quote which will help boost your productivity when you are struggling getting inspired or motivated.

If you are looking for a planner, I would highly recommend you to check this one out! The quality of the planner is amazing as well, you can see it by touching the pages and cover. If you love stationery and collect them like me, it’s definitely a product you need to have in your collection! It’s worth every single penny.

CREATE A TO-DO LIST

Having a to-do list helps me a lot when doing my day-to-day blogging tasks. I know what the main & essential tasks I need to do for the day and it helps me stay more organised. Even if for some reasons, I’m not able to complete or finish the tasks – I know what to do the next day.

Also, you can easily prioritise your tasks that way. I don’t think I’m a forgetful person but this just reassures that I’m on track with everything and that I don’t forget any important tasks or deadlines. Besides, I feel I have accomplished something huge when I’m able to tick the task haha!

THE RESOURCES I USE

  • notebook/diary
  • notes app

I pretty much use my notes app and other apps on my phone when it comes to my to-do lists. I also like to use a notebook when it comes to certain lists.

PLAN YOUR BLOG PICTURES IN ADVANCE

This is something I’ve mentioned multiple times on my blog but plan your blog pictures in advance whether you use free stock images or take your pictures by yourself. Trust me, it will save you a lot of time! Especially now that autumn is approaching and the weather is rainy therefore dark, planning and taking your blog pictures in advance will help you a lot.

WRITE WHENEVER YOU ARE PRODUCTIVE & INSPIRED

I don’t know if it’s just me but I find it extremely hard to write a blog post when I’m not productive or don’t feel inspired. I literally cannot even write a single word! Obviously, when you need to publish a blog post – that’s not the ideal situation. That’s why I only write my blog posts when I feel inspired or productive. I’m able to write a long article within an hour or two!

There are times when I don’t feel either of them so I usually watch tutorials or makeup related videos on YouTube to get me inspired. I know it’s so weird but that works for me. Do something that inspires you to spark your creativity, obviously it’s not something that comes on demand but if you feel productive or inspired on certain days – take advantage and finish your work!

TAKE BREAKS

Last but not least, it’s very important to take breaks in order to work productively on your blog. You won’t be able to work on your blog – let alone function properly – if you don’t take regular breaks. Sometimes, you need to take breaks just for your mental health and wellbeing.

It’s completely okay to take breaks! You are not going to achieve or accomplish more than you already have in those couple of hours or days off. Remember that whether you blog as a hobby or business, you need to take care of yourself first and everything else comes after that. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

  1. I’ve been scheduling my posts because I’m always too tired after work to do anything! So I write mine at the weekend or in half term. I’m a month ahead at the moment because I’m down visiting family and knew I didn’t want to have to worry about it then and be able to have quality family time!

  2. These are awesome tips! We have a similar writing progress. It wasn’t until this year that I decided to be consistent with my blog – meaning I have a specific day and time of the week that I schedule my blog. I used to just write and post when I would feel inspired but it’s so much better and productive to be organized.

  3. Such great tips! I live by the “writing when inspired” rule because I find that when you pour your soul into something, it definitely comes out better and easier to read.

  4. I am probably the most unorganized person especially with blogging and writing. I think I should start doing the editorial calendar. Thank you for the tips!

  5. It was very helpful….. I always plan ahead … and I love writing when inspired and then I schedule the publish date, that’s a lot easier and it comes out really nice🥰🥰 thank you, although I’m a beginner
