3 Ways To Disconnect & Occupy Your Mind

I hope you are all well and keeping safe! It can be difficult to disconnect your mind during tough times especially when you are confined in your home not knowing what’s going to happen in the upcoming weeks. One thing that really helped me during this difficult period is not watching the news regularly.

I realised the more I watched it frequently, the more anxious I was so I would highly recommend to avoid the news as much as you can if it’s something you are struggling with as well. In today’s post, I wanted to share with you 3 ways to forget about everything that’s happening in the world. You obviously can’t control what’s happening outside but you can definitely control your mind which will help you feel more at ease and less anxious.

SPEAK WITH YOUR LOVED ONES

I find solace talking to my loved ones when something is going on, not only will they give me the emotional support I need but they might help me with what’s bothering with me. I guess at the end of the day, you need someone to reassure you and say that everything will be okay whether it’s a friend, parent, sibling or even someone on the internet.

You will feel much more relaxed and at ease afterwards. In addition, it’s not only talking about things that are bothering you. Even talking about random things will help your mind disconnect from everything that’s going on. You will be able to forget your worries, fears and anxiety during that time, and obviously feel much more better after having a conversation with them.

DO SOMETHING YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT

Another thing that will help you occupy your mind is doing something that you are passionate about whether it’s a hobby or activity. My blog is my escape. Not only is it something I’m passionate about but I truly enjoy blogging in general. I can literally spend hours upon hours working on my blog and be so happy about it. If blogging is a passion of yours, I would highly recommend to focus on your blog during this uncertain time.

It’s a great way of escapism and it will help you focus your time & energy on something else. Obviously, some people are taking this time to monetise and develop a stream of income from their blog which is amazing but remember that it doesn’t need to be your end goal. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself! This is the perfect time to focus on your passion(s) and to relax.

FOCUS ON YOUR HOBBIES

This point is very similar to the previous one but focus on your hobbies. For some people, their hobbies are their passions as well but that’s not the case for everyone. Some people’s favourite hobby is to binge watch TV, you can’t really consider that as a passion can you? Try to spare an hour or two for each hobby if you have multiple hobbies, or focus solely on a hobby during a specific time of the day.

For instance, if drawing and playing games are your hobbies, you can draw during the day and play games during the evening and focus on another hobby during the night. That way you won’t give time to your mind to wander about anything. You will be happy doing something that you enjoy!

  1. I am a Chinese junior high student blogger and YouTuber. I usually feel stressful while I am studying. However, I usually think about blogging and YouTube filming or chat with my friends to relax.
This post is really useful for reducing my stress while I am studying or doing my things. Thanks for sharing very much and I hope you can stay safe and work productively!

  2. Thanks for the like make sure to follow my blog! You made a very wise decision. 💯 make sure to follow my other sites. You can find the links in my menu section. See you there!

  4. It’s smart to filter the information that we receive. We really don’t need to know everything that’s happening, particular the kind of info that would steal our peace.
This was such a helpful post.

  5. I love your suggestions because I have been struggling lately to find ways to occupy myself. I especially like the suggestion of finding something you are passionate about. Maybe I could even try a new passion project.

  6. Good LORD my mother watches the news 24/7 and it’s been unbearable dealing with her. I’ve resolved that once this is over I’m finally getting my own apartment. Lol. She has so many insane, paranoid ideas because of all the conflicting, sensationalist stories she sees all day. She scrubs the whole house with bleach every single day… that’s going to kill us before COVID will! Like, what are you even scrubbing? The virus doesn’t sneak under your door and climb up your lanterns.

Ah well. Hopefully just another month. Thanks for writing this, good to know I’m not the only one fed up with the news. While I can’t take your advice of “speak with your loved ones” because I’ll go mad, I’m definitely refocused on a lot of hobbies.

    1. Oh no! 😅 I completely relate to what you are saying, the news has been scaring people and some people don’t even know or realise what they are doing.

  7. We had this one bookmarked and thought today we should get down to reading everything we had saved. Great tips. I find that walks help me get out of my head and reconnect me with nature, making me realise there is more to life than worry. The news of late in the UK and American has had adverse affects and its important to remember that we cannot take all of it in – otherwise we would never find happiness. It is good to talk with those you love, particularly about random things and especially at a time like now x
