Being productive is important if you want to tackle tasks from your to-do list in an effective manner but it’s not the easiest thing to do. Your mind can easily wander and the urge to procrastinate increases as well which is definitely not bad but not ideal either. I always say this but taking a break is highly important and essential for your mental health.
You should never consider taking a break or the time you take off to relax as being unproductive because those are the things that make you productive. However, there are certain habits that we all do in our daily lives that aren’t necessarily the best in terms of productivity.
In today’s post, I wanted to share with you some habits that might make you unproductive. Knowing what makes you unproductive is the first step to accomplish your tasks. Finding a balance between your work and the things you want to do to relax will help you a lot. Now without further ado, let’s jump into the post!

UNDERESTIMATING YOUR WORKLOAD
We are all humans and we have to accept the fact that we can’t do everything. Sometimes we tend to take on more tasks than we are able to which leads to having an insane amount of stress. Obviously that doesn’t only stop there.
You can easily guess that working will be the last thing you want to do, especially when looking at the immense workload you have. The key to avoid this habit is to don’t accept or take on more than you can.
You have other priorities and tasks to do as well so you should never feel bad if you can’t do something or have to say no to something. Never underestimate the workload you have!

SPENDING TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR PHONE
Our phones do make our life easy but sometimes it makes us spend an unnecessary amount of our time as well by checking social media or playing games. It can easily distract you from doing your work and you can barely manage to tick off the tasks from your to-do list.
One of the tips I can give is to turn off your notifications on your phone or to put your phone on Airplane Mode. Another effective tip is to leave your phone in your bag or in a separate room, that way you won’t be able to check your phone regularly.

NOT TAKING BREAKS
I think this is something that most people don’t talk about and I do consider it as a habit that makes you feel unproductive. Taking regular breaks is quite healthy for you. It’s only when you don’t take a break that your mind starts to wander and you start to procrastinate.
You will feel much more energised and ready to tackle your tasks after your break. It doesn’t matter if it’s for an hour, a day or a week – full enjoy your break! If you don’t fully enjoy your break, you won’t be able to be productive afterwards.

HAVING A BIG MEAL
Personally, this is not something I’ve experienced and I don’t have a big appetite either so I can’t fully speak on this but so many of my friends can’t concentrate or do any work if they have had a big meal. They get this overwhelming urge to nap haha! So it’s understandable that they can’t get any work done when all they want is their bed or a sofa.
Something I would recommend if you are struggling with the same thing, it’s to bring or eat healthy snacks throughout the day, that way you won’t feel hungry which won’t lead you to have a big meal. Drinking a lot of water is quite important as well.

NOT HAVING AN ORGANISED SPACE
You can’t work productively if your workspace is unorganised. When your space is cluttered, so is your mind and you won’t be able to concentrate or focus on anything. That’s why having an organised place will help you be more productive. Your workspace should be inspire you and stimulate your creativity and productivity. It should be a place you only use for work as well. Taking 5/10 mins everyday to clean your space will help you a lot.

MULTITASKING
Most people would say that multitasking is something you should strive more but personally I don’t think it’s something that works for everyone. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to do multiple tasks effectively at the same time. So don’t force yourself doing that if it’s something that doesn’t work for you. It will you feel even more unproductive and it’s just not something healthy in the long run.

❤️
I’m trying to be productive again so this post really helped me!<3
I’m so glad to hear that! Thank you babe ❤️
What you said about more food gulped down makes you lazy is 101% true😂😂😂.
The goal is to eat to just the right amount
Haha that’s true! Thanks for reading ❤️
These are definitely some really great steps to take. I never eat a big meal for my lunch and usually just have a quick snake around 3:00 just as a pick-me-up!! 🙂 ♥
Thank you hun! ❤️
You’re very welcome! ♥
❤️
Great advice as always. Thank you again!
Thank you so much my lovely! ❤️
Your articles are always great. And, well researched. I look forward to your posts and all the information.
Aww thank you so much hun! That really means a lot to me ❤️
About multitasking…I remember some time ago many job listings would say something like “must be able to multitask,” but some scientific studies in the past few years are tending to show it’s not such a good thing and doesn’t really increase productivity. For me, because of my age, I just say, “my multitasker broke years ago, and it’s not going to be repaired any time soon!”
Yes! I read a number of scientific studies that said that multitasking wouldn’t improve our productivity and will have quite the opposite effect. Haha that’s a great way to say it! Thanks for reading 😊
Great tips on what not to do to decrease your productivity! I hope you don’t mind me adding an extra tip? Because this is based on one of my experiences.
Staying up late at night can decrease your productivity, because it makes you groggy for the next day; and your energy levels will be low and you’ll lose focus of what you should be doing.
Thank you so much! Of course not! That’s a very good tip ☺️
You’re welcome 😊
Great read!!
Thank you! 😊
Yes to all of these! I’ve turned off a lot of notifications on my phone. I read a report that suggested that notifications lead to stress because whenever you hear or see a notification light it “schedules” you to check your phone. Until you check it you’ll be wondering what it was! Less cellphone time is definitely better 🙂
Great post lovely! x
Thank you so much my love! x
Great tips!, there’s always an instant regret from me when I overfill my to-do list and if I do have to do that, I find it easier to list it and pick 3 of the most important things and carry things onto the next day, if I can’t do them.
Charlie
Thank you Charlie! ❤️
This is soooo helpful! Thank you! I think I need to improve my organization skills and have a better workplace aha
So glad it was helpful! Haha my pleasure lovely ❤️
https://studywys.wordpress.com/2020/05/15/the-penable-award/ I’ve nominated you for the penable award!
Thank you for nominating me! I really appreciate it ❤️
❤
I’ve always believed that its better to be single-focused than fall for the bane that is multitasking. Multitasking will have you busy about doing everything an achieving little to nothing at the end of the day. Great advice 👍🏼
So true! Thank you ❤️
Great post as always! I try to limit my phone time. I used to be very WhatsApp ready but nowadays, I’m a lot more lax about replying to people straight away unless it’s work or emergency. I usually reply the most to people before I go to sleep which I think is a good time to wind down and catch up with the rest of the world. I think one of the worse things about social media is it makes you unnecessarily anxious if people don’t reply straight away…until you remember that you do the same too! 😅
I really liked your point about multitasking. I think the problem with multitasking is people have this concept that you really work on two or three things at the exact same time but it might just be two or three projects/tasks that run alongside each other so it’s best to split everything into mini tasks to complete for the day. 🙂 That normally helps me!
Thank you so much hun! I know right! I don’t reply straightaway either but if the other person takes time to reply, I always think of the worst case scenario 😅 Sometimes I don’t even reply for days which is so bad haha x
well said.. totally agree with you.
Thank you! 😊
Hey, I really like your work in general. You are really good!
Thank you so much! ❤️
Thanks for the mental check. I am just getting to the place where I can organize my thoughts and posts. Been working on that this weekend as a matter of fact. Again, thanks for the great post and good advise. Blessings and peace.
My pleasure love! Take care and stay safe ❤️

Yep…we like ghost post and can relate to it! Phones, breaks and workspaces. Those are my big issues heheh! I need absolute peace and quiet when I work other wise I cany focus. Oh and multitasking – I agree with you is not so great. It means you cant actually focus fully on a task. I’m learning more and more to just doen one thing at a time and do it stunningly well. Great post x
Thank you so much! x
